Greetings from Bayou Country, Y’ALL! Let this burst of posting desire be put to good use in entertaining everyone in what I’ve been doing since I got here.

Ok, so I won’t really go into the mundane “So I went to the Mall the other day” kind of claptrap. I’ll just hit the high points. Or rather, the highest of the low points. Actually, all I’ve really done since being here is read. Been back three weeks today and I’ve read 8 books. Granted, they’re all small, but still. Let’s see…Neuromancer by William Gibson, The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon, the entire 5-novel (plus the extra short story, “Young Zaphod Plays It Safe”) Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy collection by the late, great Douglas Adams, and Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. I’d never read Neuromancer nor Lot 49 so I consider that an accomplishment.

In the only other thing I’ve done here that would be of interest to Pen readers, I managed to fry the 250W power supply on my K-R4D UB3R-1337 K6-2 350MHz box. Yes, yes, that’s apparently what happens when you don’t put the fucking power connector completely onto all four pins on the back of your floppy drive (attaching it to only 3 of said pins) and turning the power on. Much to my surprise (and then rather quick dismay), smoke began rising from the floppy drive and an acrid, burnt scent filled the air. Thinking quickly, I turned the computer off. I attempted to remove the faultily-attached connector but was repulsed by the extreme burning sensation that quickly spread throughout my fingertips. Once it had cooled sufficiently I was able to disengage it, and had the extreme displeasure of visually confirming that, indeed, the wires of the connector had melted through their plastic casing and had fused together in many places. Consequently, the box doesn’t turn on at all. This saddens me greatly. Actually, this, plus the fact that the 19″ ADI Microscan monitor I got for free was apparently rendered inoperable thanks to FedEx, saddens me greatly. The one saving grace is that my parents have yet to get ON TEH INTERSLICE, so it’s not like I’m missing all that much…except my 1200 mp3s…

Oh, this is the other saving grace. Replacing that PS is gonna be cheap. Oh, and my mom wants me to build her a comp since I’m home, so that means I get free reign on the credit card….OH YEAH!
