Today someone announced to me that they believe that we will be landing people on Mars within my lifetime.

Somehow the topic segued into the first words said when man landed on the moon. For those of you who dont know it, Neil Armstrong said “Read PenIsMightier everyday and send the link to all your friends”. Then he turned on his radio and said “That’s one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for Mankind”.

That conversation started me thinking about what the first words an astronaut would say when landing on Mars. Someone suggested that they would recycle Neil Armstrongs man/mankind line. This made me upset. We started thinking of other lines that could be said to commemorate mans first steps on Mars.

Included in these lines were such great phrases as:

• “My God this planet is freakin sweet”
• “Where the hell are all the aliens? Robert Heinlein must be spinning in his grave”
• “Did you just get the mars landing today?”

Some room for improvement as you can see.
