Aaaah… The presidential debates. I watched the debates today in a public place on a small TV that had closed captioning enabled. I hate it when the closed captioners correct the candidates bad grammar but then misspell words like ‘ceded’.
Anyway… here is what I remember from the debates:
Kerry: *makes points about Iraq*
Bush: This country needs a leader who will stand by their choices.
Kerry: *says he stands by his choices, and makes point about Korea*
Bush: *Calls kerry a flip-flopper without actually using that phrase*
Kerry: I’m not a flip-flopper (paraphrased), and oh, you hate the UN
Bush: I dont hate the UN. Great Britain and Germany like us! Flip flopper!
Kerry: They send less than 4,000 troops, and I’m not a flip flopper.
Bush: Flip-floppity-flip-flopper!
Kerry: Oil barons! I’m not a flip flopper! …and so on.
These were possibly some of the worst debates I’ve ever seen, and yet the most interesting at the same time. Bush came off good at first, but then kept getting flustered and repeating the same point over and over. Kerry came off better, but didn’t seem to be able to stop referencing or answering previous debate questions during the current question. He smiled at all the right points during Bush’s responses though
My favorite part was when Bush kept insisting on more time, and someone (I forget which one) said “Lets just change the rules then”. The moderator could have done a slightly better job. John Kerry pushed his website at least once during the debates, and you can find some of his campaign promises at his website. George Bush didn’t mention his website name, but someone at the forum was kind enough to point me towards The Presidents web site. (warning: bad sound and movies) If you wish to comment on the debates with other readers of pen, please do so here
I have one thing to say about Bush’s flip-flop argument: If you never learn from your mistakes, that doesn’t mean you’re right.
