This made the geek part of me go ‘squee’. Then I felt ashamed. So I share my shame with you.
I’m sure that I will always be
A lonely number like root threeThe three is all that’s good and right,
Why must my three keep out of sight
Beneath the vicious square root sign,
I wish instead I were a nineFor nine could thwart this evil trick,
with just some quick arithmeticI know I’ll never see the sun, as 1.7321
Such is my reality, a sad irrationalityWhen hark! What is this I see,
Another square root of a threeAs quietly co-waltzing by,
Together now we multiply
To form a number we prefer,
Rejoicing as an integerWe break free from our mortal bonds
With the wave of magic wandsOur square root signs become unglued
Your love for me has been renewed
If it sounds familiar, its probably because this poem appeared in Harold and Kumar 2… and sounds a bit like ‘a poem as lovely as tree’ (Trees – Joyce Kilmer).

It IS based on the Trees poem. Very astute of you! This poem originally began “I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as root three. A three is all that’s good and right …” But I have to agree with the script writers that “I fear that I will always be a lonely number like root three” is a much better way to start this corny poem for the movie.

Or was it “I fear that I will always be?”
Ah fuckit.
