Comfortable With Conformity

February 21, 2001 Well, now. Tonight will be Round 3 of Us vs. The Man, or rather, the class vs. Prof. H. I'm so ready for this. Why can't these fun things happen all the time? My sister scored a 9.2 on that awful website, Am I Hot Or Not? Granted, her score mainly was a result of her bountiful cleavage and revealing, black lace dress, but she thinks she's IT now-- which is what she thought before, actually. I bought some incense yesterday from Uncle Sam's, this trendy-as-hell music store on South Beach. I am an incense virgin, so S had to show me how to light it and everything. I've always loved the strong smell of incense, except I didn't know what it was until S told me that's what I was smelling on South Beach-- to cover up the smell of marijuana. Anyway, now that I bought the stuff, and know how to light it and set it up, my sister and my mom keep complaining that "something's burning" when I light it, and my sister says the smell gives her a headache. So no lighting incense for me. My mom goes around shutting lights. Does anyone else's mom do this? It's fucking maddening. Am I going to end up doing this, too? She walks into my room, looks at herself in the closet mirror, then flicks off the hall light as she leaves. I will always say to her, "I wanted the light ON", and then she puts it back on. Or sometimes she asks me before she leaves my room, her hand poised above the light switch, "Did you want this on or off?" If you walk into a room, and the light is on, and then you leave, why would you change anything-- especially if it's not your room? Why does she do this? Come to think of it, she does this with the TV, too. If I'm watching TV, and go to the bathroom, she will shut the TV off. When I come back and ask her why the hell she shut if off, she'll say, "I thought you weren't coming back." My mom is the electriciy police. In job news, I have no interviews lined up. That's ok. I've also been less tired and headache-free, and I hope I don't jinx my headache-less streak by saying that. I have no idea why I've been feeling better lately, because nothing has changed in my life in the last two weeks. I can actually go a whole day without needing a nap, without popping some caffeine pills to keep me going. That, in itself, is amazing.
