Comfortable With Conformity

August 24th Friday Woo-hoo! My first day of work! And it was...dull. The last hour and a half, I sat at my computer writing e-mails and surfing the internet. I couldn't leave because I need to clock in at least eight hours a day. It's kinda cool cause you can come in at 7 or 8 am and leave at 3 or 4 pm. I think I'll just be boring and work 9-5, like Dolly Parton. Someone bought me ice cream at work, this big guy named Chad. He bought ice cream for everyone, but it was a nice gesture nonetheless. It was a strawberry eclair bar. I...threw it out. I didn't want to be rude and decline it, but it was like 250 calories and 20 grams of fat and I've made a vow to start watching my weight as soon as I got a job. I very quietly and very gracefully slipped it into the garbage can under my desk. I'm exhausted. They had me doing all the grunt work that no one else wants to do. I sorted mail, put slides away, and filed. The mail sorting was harder than it sounds. Certain people get certain mail. You don't give mail to the person it's addressed to, you give certain types of mail to people, according to what their "beat" is. A "beat" is what story they're currently covering, so they only get press releases that are relevent. I am so grateful for this job. I am a fucking editorial assistant. The second part of my life can now begin. |
