Let us speak of fragility. How easy is it to fuck up your mainboard just by removing the sink/fan from the processor? Let's assume that someone did remove their sink, redistibuted the arctic silver love, and then replaced same heatsink/fan. And let's just say for arguments sake that upon pushing the power button the stupid fucking whore wouldn't boot, call me daddy, or play with her friends. Dead. A short whimper and then nothing. Should I cry for her proc or her board?

it's all about the processor. i remember the first time i mounted my thunderbird with some blowing action, i almost shit my pants at the amount of force required to get the clip on there. i actually had to ask my friend to bear down with all his weight on the screwdriver that was pushing the clip. i couldnt bear to do it myself.

indeed, i had resigned myself to a cracked cpu die that day, but all was well.

if you did crack the die, send a photo and send it in to us. your loss can be learnt from.

and next time... get a friend to do it. then you can sue him or something if he fubars it

If I understand Tsu correctly he got his hetsink back on but it won't boot. one of the biggest issues I've seen is that when working on the computer someone knocks something loose. Most commonly on atx mobo's (most common) if you knock the small power jumper loose it won't boot even though the actual power source is hooked up.

Question is do you get beeps or anything? Do the fans power on? Spreding the artic love is good infact I need to respread the cremy goodness.

She's getting progressively worse. First the boot sequence would start and then the lights on the dvd and cd-rw drives would start to flash quickly. With each consecutive power off/on it would do less and less. I've disconnected everything except the vid card, mem, proc. and get nothing not even a signal to the monitor.

You switched motherboards?

Did you use the same processor or did the board have a different one in it?

Your not hearing ANY beeps? Its most likely not a video problem then. There should be one short beep when the board runs through its check and everything comes out ok. Anything else is not desireable. Multiple beeps are better than no beeps though. Then at least you can be fairly sure your board works

The way I see it there are five possiblilites:

1)Your mobo is fucked.
2)Your processor failed to seat correctly
3)Your processor is fucked.
4)Your power supply is not hooked up correctly.
5)Your power supply no longer works at the correct voltage ranges/tolerances.

Most power supplies have multiple voltage outputs. I believe a 12v for the fans...and I THINK something else for the board. So it is possible (but unlikely...) for the power supply to be bad while the fans still work.

If your not hearing beeps I cant see the video, memory, soundcard, network adaptor, keyboard, mouse, monitor, cupholder, or even the disk drives as being the problem.

Tsu, what sort of processor is it? A slot based proc is a lot less likely to get damaged than a socket proc, and many horror stories abound about cracked amd thunderbird and duron cores in particular.

My original setup was an abit kt7a-raid with a socket 900 t-bird. I changed out the raid board for a normal kt7a. The proc is seated correctly and I have no clue how to tell if my power supply thinks its April 1st or not. So apparently I'll be buying a new T-bird.
Gloom, despair, and agony on me. Thanks for the help oh ye knights of the mighty pen.
