This board is great though-- I was just looking into ubb a couple weeks ago, and it looked like it was no longer open-source. Glad that wasn't so..can I be a moderator so I can give myself a cool status string? fen IP: Logged |

eod - you'll actually have to make Fen a full admin if you want him to be able to get at the custom title or custom smiley sections. It was a lot easier for me to make the hack check for admin status than moderator status, so that's what it does.Fen - I don't think the UBB was ever open source... you just can't really hide your source code if you distribute a Perl script. There's a pretty thriving UBB hacking community, try looking at www.ubbdev.com and www.ubbhackers.com if I remember the URLs right - I used to be fairly active at one or the other until I'd written all the hacks I wanted for my own board. Btw, tip for PenIs staffers dealing with the vagaries of the Bla FTP server:If it appears to hang on you: CANCEL THE TRANSACTION IMMEDIATELY. Close the connection. Reconnect. Typically, the damn thing will "lose" current connections very quickly, but will remain responsive as hell to NEW connections... so if you just bail at the first sign of trouble and then try again, it's a relatively minor hassle instead of a complete inability to get the job done. I also recommend - highly - installing a CGI (or php?) file management script for use on those occasions that the damn thing does just shit itself completely... the CGI is generally still fully operational when the FTP is completely hosed. I've had to update my own site like that many a time. IP: Logged |
