Jimbo... the message boards rocks hard. I do however have one question... can we reverse the direction of the threads. For example the newest posts at the top instead of at the bottom? -SaraIP: Logged |

1. Yes.2. We should probably get a consensus of opinion on it, though, before anybody makes any changes... me personally, I'd vote against it; reverse order drives me nuts. (Tip: you did notice you can click page numbers to go directly to the last page of a multi-page thread from the main forum view, right?) 3. Am I admin-ing this board? I don't mind doing it in the slightest, if that's what everybody wants, but I don't wanna step on any toes. IP: Logged |

Totally agree on all accounts. I was particularly interested in whether or not the possibility existed. I did notice I can click right to the second page... thanks Jimbo. You are a god among men -SaraIP: Logged |

You can admin or just help get it fine tuned. I dunno everyone is directing questions towards you (which they should since you have far more ubb admin experience than I do).IP: Logged |

Why, were you thinking of adapting a thread on a private forum into a handy-dandy rough'n'ready E/N update script? IP: Logged |

Due to years of conditioned response, I must weigh in with a meaty "Replies at the bottom." There's just something more appealing about scrolling down to find what was just said than scrolling down to see what the person on top is responding to.------------------ Dad, I'm sorry I shot you. I'm with you MightyMon, I like it the way it is now. This way you can reread the originals so that you can understand the replies.------------------ ~Bitch IP: Logged |

It would still be possible to reread the originals.. this would only make it easier for those of us that check back often. [This message has been edited by Sara (edited 03-20-2001).] IP: Logged |

I realize that you still *can* reread the originals, but the way it is now you can read them in sequence, if it was in reverse order you'd have to scroll down to find the last one you read, and you tend to get them out of context that way. It's much easier to find where you left off in a thread by scrolling through the ones you've already read than trying to figure out where the last one is.IP: Logged |

I agree that reverse order is not the way to go. If you have many people posting near the same time (as often happens here) you have to scroll down anyway to read it, no matter how often you check the board. Besides... Reading from bottom to top is like trying to read from right to left... It can be done, but unless you have to it should be avoided. As far as the main page goes: The posts are seldom related and do not normally have to be read in a specific order to understand what is going on. In that case (besides there only being 4 or 5 active posters) the new post on the top format is not a bad idea. -Chris IP: Logged |

I think it best for us all to read all the responses before responding. As I tend to scroll without reading just to put in something that was already said, I see the benefits... I will try to read now.. (it's really hard, y'know?) I agree that we should keep it as is - it's really tight.IP: Logged |

Well, I think you're all nuts, but I guess I'll go with the general consensus. But the fact remains that newest-post-on-top is better. All this "I have to scroll down if there's more than a screenful of new messages" is dumb. If the newest post is on the bottom you have to scroll or click to the second page every time, come hell or high water. Dumb.
