Most things as you get older , you become lesser skilled at them than those younger than you , finally I am glad to see with the birth of video games that will cease . I know for a fact that a people who have been playing videos games since the spawn of them have the heads up on younger jerknuts who have no concept of the pleasure of seeing games advance from Two lines and a square doing intricate battle while teenagers and young baby boomers finally got to enjoy doing bonghits while they waited for their turn to grab the paddle and do battle . To see it go from that to the amasement of color in the 2600 , then to funky ass paddles of the Intelvision , (intel , wink wink nudge nudge) to Coleco where Tarzan rained , then on to the at the time in 1985 the ultimate of all shit the Coleco , which was never gonna be outdone until 1986 when a most likley homosexual robot came out for gyroscope on the forever classic and most influential gaming system that is still spawning many of todays top selling console titles , of the nes , I still remember when I got pissed and smashed that fucking robot for not dropping the damn top when it should have , had to blame it on a neighbor kid, hehe , lil fucker . Anyway well before that there was also the 5200 which was alright , I liked playing congo bongo , goddamn controllers wore out quick , I would say the worst console controller ever designed , maybe the dreamcast is worse , Either both bad . Then came the sega home system , Rocky was cool , I know everyone had to play that in 87 at the local department store , I played alot of Rocky it was the first time I got experience the thrill of pissing people off at vs fighting games , my hand eye skills were great for my age , and my mom told me masterbating was a waste of time and a sin , boy that stupid whore had no idea of what was ahead with the gift on internet porn , hmm what he hell am I talknig about , oh yeh well any way like you need me to give the history o video games from the first one of pong , the point is this , even when I dominated a streetfighter , and I was the only white trash at the mall that could legaly drink , and the kids and their right to think that youth is only aloud to enjoy games and that their old man does not know whats going on , with the new shit need to realize we are the generation that brought these lil homos the fucking shit , ( not me I am stuoid ) and we will always be better at playing these games , for if you ever touched a real pong in the 70's consider it to have the same power as the nazis' blood flag , for it is the genesis device of gaming greatness , beware that thinking playing contra is old school , when it is mereley a sad mockery of combat or that of circus atari , and lets have am momemt of silence for warlords on 2600 , the game that made 4 player action possible in 1981 , one other thing too , even if you can out play me in gaming skills , I can guarantee that I can be more annoying when I set next to you with my old man farts , I am sure many will think this is stupid , well your right it is , but like I said if you didn't play pong you can suck my schlong.

Well, you're in for a treat!

You see, the joy of watching video game technology advance is very similar to the joy of watching writing techniques advance!

Specifically, there's this new trend, called using "paragraphs!" They will revolutionize the industry.

It's an exciting time to read, folks.

I love the best that can be said about me is my bad gammar skills , refer to a post on kings field for my education dossier , hehe, i am glad to see bad structure and spelling infuriates the squares of society who feel the need to ne superior at stuff that has now relevance in this chemical misadjustment of life were currently caught in , too bad did't have the time to argue in a drawn out faction of an example that every thing I scribr in this universe is bond , and your writing style on a infintive existance level is equally an example of a preconditioned concept put into your head by a person you never met , I bet you think first number is one , toodles , book taught , sorry you can't see outside what the man controls you with .

i beg to disagree a slight bit
i was not around for the original pong but i had a coleco the day it came out! i was soo physhed. then the whole line of atari's then nes sega snes ect.....
i also remember my commodore 64. wolfenstein 3d, that blast game where you shot planes flying overhead and you were a turret on the ground.... ahh i can't remember the name. i also remember the first time i saw DOS! wow! hehe
and then the slew of great apogee games haha.
i remember playing lords for the first time haha. WOW! theres actual people! no there can't be! shit i just died in a duel, wow a custom message! i am playing against people!
hehe
but i do completely agree that the people who grew up with video games may not be better but have alot better appreciation of them.
i can play a game with the shittiest graphics and be happy cuz its a cool game. but now if its not real 3d or anime then its shit. like give a kid the original doom (you know the whole 4-5 disks or whatever it was) and they will ask what the disks are for? "those arent just for saving my reports from school?"
they will say the game sucks shit.
but how many of us finished the game? i know i did and played it after too. cuz it kicked ass at the time.

the good ole' days

That one guy, you're a-ok. Let's play some Wizard of Wor sometime. Or Gorf.

No, wait a minute- I just read where you pissed on Zork.

Zork was THE game. No other game can claim the old-school heritage or close ties with the hacking community of zork. Zork is the fount from which all other games flowed, period. Saying that zork is weak and ther revering King's Field is like saying "Dizzy Gillespie? fuck that guy. Richard Clayderman, that guys knows how to swing."

Oldskool gaming, boyee.

For those of you who don't recognize it, this is the game boxcover that Sierra On-Line probably wishes it could forget: Softporn Adventure was the original, incredibly clumsy, text-only adventure game that would later be reincarnated in vastly superior graphic format as Leisure Suit Larry.

See the chick on the far right? That's Roberta Williams. Yeah, that Roberta Williams... On-Line Systems would eventually become Sierra On-Line, and Roberta Williams is the owner's wife (co-owner?), not to mention the chick responsible for King's Quest and plenty of other cutesy adventures.

The other two topless chicas are random secretaries grabbed and dunked in a hot tub for a quick photo. (Note the strategic stroke of the airbrush applied to the chick on the left - looks like Roberta got one too, but that one's harder to see.)

You wouldn't BELIEVE how hard it was to find a copy of this damn cover.

[/historical gaming moment]

Wow Jimbo, I am impressed. I had in fact never seen that cover, although Leisure Suit Larry was one of the favorites of all the computer geeks I hung out with at the time.

And Pong? I was the master of Pong. We skipped the Calecovision (although Tical got one, and we have it boxed up in a closet somewhere to this day), but I was also the master of Asteroids on the Atari.

Not so long ago I was chatting with some dumb kid about video games, and they had no clue that Mario Bros. was the reincarnation of Donkey Kong. How on earth can anyone be that dumb?

I'd have to say that I am quite a Sierra buff (older stuff before they started using icon driven/mouse controlled interfaces) and I really think that picture is a gem of a find and trivia.

Got anymore? BTW I do have most of these games still, and most are zipped up quite nicely. I think its time to install Hero's Quest or Space Quest and replay the series.

i mean, who wouldnt love to use the zork engine to play a game set in... uhh... a big warehouse, if i were to go by most of the crappy mods i see out there.

eod - that's it for my "collection", unfortunately... I don't own the original cover itself, I just spent an UNGODLY amount of time scouring the web for a decent scan of it after I read an article in the 20th anniversary of Computer Gaming World that mentioned it.

edited to note that all SORTS of interesting things can be found if you dig around in that link: in particular, I keep meaning to download the direct translation of the ORIGINAL Zork, ie the one that was programmed on the MIT PDP mainframe before Infocom came into existence. This original "Zork" was then split into the Zork, Zork II, and Zork III most of us are more familiar with, simply because you couldn't fit the whole damn thing on a singly floppy disk of the era. There is also supposed to be MIT-original 80-column ASCII art embedded in the game. Talk about your historical gaming curiosities...

That one guy - it's not that we can't comment on anything other than your poor grammar and English skills. We could probably find lots of other stuff wrong with what you say too.

I got about 3 lines into your post, and I'm thinking to myself, "Fuck no, this is not worth reading."

We (and by "we," I mean "I, and most likely others") can't comment on posts because we don't read your posts. Quite simple.
