Just wanted to say that I am a fairly new reader of PenIs. I have to say that I spend too much time reading the posts and crap at work. At least I'm getting paid for it!

I just started a new part time job at an insurance company. I am the loner computer analyst, and was assigned the fun task of "getting rid of old software" today. So I started looking through and found more stuff than I knew what to do with.

The oldest piece of software was an original copy of DOS 3.2. I thought I was bad for having a copy of DOS 3.3 still at my parents house.

Then I got to thinking. Remember the good old days when your old 386 ran so fast. You had the 40 MB hard drive that "you could never fill up". The top of the line Super VGA moniter that had a viewable image of 13.1". Or you were fortunate if you had a 3.5" floppy drive along with the beloved 5.25" floppy.

God how times have changed.

Ahhh the good old days.

I was a real brat when I was a young kid. One day I made myself a pretty damn l33t katapult, if I do say so myself. So that summer I was out playing with friends, you know, the ususal crap like shooting at streetlights and other breakable things. Birds (in flight, of course) were always a favorite target. Of course we never hit one.
Until one day. I was shooting at fish in a pond, when we scared a couple of ducks. As the ducks flew by, I took aim... and bang!
I hit the duck in mid-flight. A puff of feathers followed by the duck splashing in the water. It didn't stay afloat very long, and it didn't take long to die... I hope.

I went home crying and threw away my catapult, making a vow to never use it again.
About ten years later, when I was moving out of my parent's house, I found it while cleaning out some stuff in the shed. It was moulded up and the elastic was all brittle.
Damn that brought back memories.

I think I'll listen to some Enya now.

btw Stickyload, if it makes you feel any better, a little more than four years ago (when I was hired on) my company was still USING DOS 5.0. Worse yet, even though they'd paid for 8MB machines, they weren't using any extended or expanded memory managers so they only had access to the first 640K.

D'oh!

of the porn movies then!
3 or 4 .jpg files on an
infinite loop. y0wz4!

which i rebuilt into a
cyrix 200+ mII machine.

It was ole' "Pick Axe Pete" on the old Odessey system that was my favorite games. Now THAT had some cool graphics.

And my atari? My brother still has it. (Wonder if it still works?)

pick axe pete just sounds
unnecessarily harsh on the
ol' pete. anyway, i meant
the atari computer, with
the hot sexy internal 5 1/4"
floppy drive and the 16 color
hercules monocrome video action!
how cold you give your atari away
to your brother? don't you know
he has a.d.d. now because of you?
for shame. >;p
