When I first got new computer ( well.. not new anymore ) I got Half Life for free. My friends told me about Counter-Strike, and that's all I played. I joined into the CS crowd at Beta 6. Twas all good and dandy until I found out about a thing I will call "KillDemon.cfg" Otherwise known as the "Oh Demon of Elru is on this server so now the opposite team will slaughter him mercilessly until he leaves" factor. This factor is a nasty thing. I dunno what happened.. but once a certain server was shut down, I sucked. This server was a clan server, and all members of the clan were Low Ping Bastards, and they were good. So, me, being the High Ping Bastard, would get killed. Over a couple of weeks I got better and could somewhat keep up with them. Their server went down for good, and I found other servers. Then -it- began.
No matter who I fought, LPB or HPB, no matter which map, I was killed. Headshot, headshot, kill, kill, kill, kill, headshot, kill, kill, headshot, rinse, repeat. Then I left CS for TFC.
CS is 93% luck. Either the CTs rescue the hostages or the Ts bomb the.. bomb point. The round time will expire, or the map will change. People will fire randomly and kill you. You can fire at people, and they won't die. You can get blown up by the bomb and go flying, and they will get hit by the blast and survive with 9 health. You can hit someone with an AWP shot and they will be running with 3 health, they shoot you and you die.
Now, don't get me wrong. Some kills are from skills that pay the bills, but more often than not, they are luck.
People never seem to die [ IDDQD ] and some seem to never run out of ammo [ IDKFA ].
TFC has classes that expand the gameplay beyond CS's "Buy, run, shoot, kill, die, repeat" flow. In TFC you have Sentry guns and Detpacks and AIDS and Spies and me running in a crab position shooting shotgun shells from my crowbar while bunny hopping, tossing a bouncy hallucination grenade, and pulling a Matrix. (hehehehe)
It's more diverse, and has more strategy. At least in my opinion that know one cares about :P
