Snag,I don't mean to scar you, just guide you into the light. There is so much wonderful beer out there just waiting to be tasted. I still don't like chewy beers like Guiness, black and tans, stouts, etc. But I love rich red ales and sweet hefe-weizens. There are numerous lagers, pilsners and oktoberfest brews that aren't heavy but that have some character. It's like eating red delicious apples instead of mangoes, raspberries and kiwis. It's all fruit but some of it is more interesting. -Bex IP: Logged |

Oh yeah, the mention of Irish whiskey reminded me of the best non-scotch liquor I've ever tasted (and once again, ideal for getting young girls drunk): Tullamore Dew. Most good liquor places in the States carry it, and it is like 35 proof honey.------------------ With proper thrust, pigs fly just fine. --RFC 1925 IP: Logged |

Fermented honey? Real fermented honey is called "mead" - old norse drink. If you've never had Screaming Viking mead, try it - it'll put hair on your chest. IP: Logged |

Snag,It's accepted and even encouraged to drink a nice cloudy sweet hefe-weizen with a wedge of lemon. So you can pretend it's a kick-ass Corona if it'll make you feel better. -Bex

Most alcohol consumed in a night.... hmmm.... probably the night before my flight out of Germany. My best friend took me out for a going away drink, I was getting out of the Army, and she was flying to Amsterdam with me, on her way home on leave. We went to our favorite pub the night before, The Emerald Isle Irish pub in Bamberg. We then consumed mass quantities of everything they had. I don't even remember what I drank, except for a few screwdrivers, some tequila shooters, and lotsa Poitin and a Long Island, for starters. We made it back to the barracks at 3am, we had to leave at 6 for our flight. I went to the bathroom down the hall from my room to puke a couple of times, and the last time some guy followed me asking if I was ok. I insisted that I was fine, went into my room, forgot to lock the door, and started to get undressed for a shower. I was just about to put my robe on for the walk back to the bathrooms when the guy opened my door 'to make sure' I wasn't dying. I swear to God I have never seen a black man blush so hard in my life. His face was red. I almost laughed, but having heard so many stories about females being assaulted in their rooms, I yelled at him to get the hell out and waited an hour with the door locked to go to the showers. I found out later that he was dating a girl across the hall from me, and was actually worried that I was going to pass out from alcohol poisoning, I guess I appeared pretty drunk. Hell I was trashed, but nowhere near how messed up I was on New Years Eve... IP: Logged |

Trivial Pursuit Shots. Approximately 1991.After a beer and several double shots of rum to set the stage, my BOSS and I decided it would be a fun game to play at a party. Started innocently enough. I answer a question right, he takes a shot. I get a question wrong, I take a shot. And Vice versa. After a few rounds, we decided it would be a good idea to drink if we actually managed to ask a question. Basically it degraded into a very uncoordinated squabble over the bottle, passing it back and forth and drinking straight from it. Oh, and did I mention this was tequila? Gold tequila of not a very fine vintage. Later in the night I have vague recollections of patting my bosses back while he threw up. (I didn't throw up, alas) I woke up the next morning at 11am in someone's house that I didn't know. Everyone was gone. My leg was bleeding and still contained a large chunk of glass from where I crawled over a broken shot glass in the middle of the night. I remembered nothing past the bathroom. I had to go to work that day since I had been drinking with my coworkers and they would know I wasn't legitimately ill. I worked in an ice cream shop. I sipped cold water, tried to avoid looking at food and shuddered at the sight of my boss since I was so embarassed. I didn't eat for 3 or 4 days and even then it was soda crackers. Let me even smell tequila today and I still feel queasy. Close runner up was the night in 1990 I drank most of a 750ml bottle of vodka and a quart of OJ and then had to listen while my friend and her new boyfriend made out in the next room. I decided it would be a good idea to call another friend of mine to see if he could give me a ride home. So I ended up staying at his parent's house, puking most of the night away in their guest bathroom. That is incidentally, the only time I have ever thrown up due to alcohol. Ahh to be 17 again. Those glorious days of yesteryear. Which probably look so great in hindsight because I don't remember half of what happened. -Bex

story of the first:a few years ago when i had just started university, and thus started drinking, i somehow talked my way into having a shot-for-shot competition... with an australlian. we sat down in the lounge surrounded by many spectators from the house, and the tequilla was presented. porn was playing on the tv, and the first shot was poured, quickly followed by the second and the third. at this point, we dispensed with the lemon wedges because the tastebuds were on hiatus. a few shots later, some wise-ass decided we needed chasers of beer, which had to be chugged. the chasers were presented again after several more shots. i dont know how much we had drunk by that point, but the smell of tequilla and lemon juice permeated the entire lounge. i decided to add to the atmosphere by throwing up in a nearby garbage can. having thus emptied my stomach, i was ready for yet more shots. i didnt feel drunk in the least. the two of us had emptied a 26er and then some of silver tequilla, in the space of no more than 15 minutes. i still didnt feel drunk. until... i stood up. this is a valuable tequilla lesson... it only hits you when you're standing, at which point you're bound to do one of two things: fall right back down and pass out, or bang your knees into the radiator, stay on your feet long enough to be walked down to your room and thrown in bed, and *then* pass out. luckily for me, my friends had left a garbage pail by my head so that everything that came out of me while i was sleeping didnt end up on the floor. it's been three years, and i think i'm finally ready to take my old friend tequilla back into my arms. that is, if my other good friend vodka will allow it IP: Logged |

I was a heavy drinker before joining the navy, and it was not unusual for me to down an entire case of Lucky 11oz. shots in an evening. The navy taught me a few tricks about drinking along the way, bringing me to new heights in alchohol consumption. The Phillipines was probably the pinnacle of my inebriation, beer selling for 35-95 cents a bottle depending on where you were and 'Bullfrog', a mixture of alchohol slightly less toxic than a Long Island was served in large pitchers with the straw being optional. Many mornings spent swerving back to the ship just in time to change into my work uniform and hate life until it was time to go drinking again. Almost every night was started by our division going to a bar for an AA meeting (active alcoholics). Which makes me wonder how our old buddy Jeer is doing? Anyone heard from him yet? Heh he's probably either scrubbing a toilet or barfing into one right now. IP: Logged |

Actually, Great Dane makes only one good beer, American Pale Ale, all the rest are served with an uncommonly strong although belated headache. New Glarus' Edel-Pils stands out as their highest quality brew in my opinion. IP: Logged |

ack beer.... i seldom drink anymore but of the time my favorite drinks were vodka with cranberry juice chilled (almost frozen)but my real weakness is red wine. a bottle or 2 of great red wine and im happy for the whole night. but once we were out at a house party and i am coming down from a high i copped during the afternoon with some friends of mine. so im there wondering around this house and end up fallin asleep in the kitchen for an hour. when i wake up the party is starting to pick up (i guess i got their early) and i find myself laying against the supboards. so i commence to search around and find this bottle of whine. i figure it was way in the back and wont be missed so i pop the baby open. this is where the world shut off and the only thing that existed was the tastes and sensations pouring from that bottle. well i am in heaven for awhile then i come up to breathe and i look at the bottle...... eeeehhhhhh its a vintage bottle i almost pissed myself, this sucker was a 1970 Fonseca that didnt seem bad but the price was still on it ...150 bucks so in my semi-drunken wisdom proceeded to finish off all except the last 1/4 of it then fill the rest of the bottle with juices and whatnot that seemed reddish. not really a drinkin story, more of a "stupid shit i've done" story

Jabberwocky, Wow, someone from my neck of the woods! Seems most people here live on the West Coast. I haven't had a problem with headaches at the Great Dane. Just had the Devil's Lake Red Lager the other day. Another good one.
Edil-Pils is good but not my favorite. I REALLY love the Red Ale, and if I'm in a certain mood, the Spotted Cow. I must say though, I haven't had a bad beer from New Glarus and I've been drinking their beer since they still sold it in 4-packs. Have an opinion on the Angelic? Nuentoter, how can you drink that much red wine without a raging headache? I take a sip of the stuff and the sulfites make my head throb. -Bex

So I know this post is old but, I still wanted to answer. By far the best drink ever would have to be ERDINGER hefe-weizen served draft at the Emerald Isle Irish Pub in Bamberg. Given to me by either Raymond or Joe. Guys I miss you. Love, cindyIP: Logged |

Depends upon the weather. When it's hot and humid: 1) Labatt's blue (warm weather staple) 2) Corona (no lime) 3) Amstel Cool Weather: 1) Bass Pale Ale (cool weather staple) 2) Pale Ales from local micro brewerys. 3) Labatt's blue I love a good single malt, BUT: beer + single malt = too buzzed IP: Logged |
