Yes, Gore really DID lose the election.

1. He knew going in that winning the popular vote meant NOTHING. Unlike the majority of American voters/citizens, he knows how the system works.

2. People who claim the majority of Florida voters intended to vote for Gore can't possibly know that.

3. People attempting a recount had to guess at garbled returns. These should be thrown out instead. This is why the Supreme Court ordered the process stopped.

4. He lost. He admitted it.

Personally, I'm glad to see a President who views a tax-surplus as too much taxation. I'm glad to see a President who plans to institute sweeping tax cuts. (this leads to large amounts of growth, and MORE tax revenue with LOWER taxes.)

And hopefully, we have a President who will tell those Chinese fuckers where they can stick their downed pilot.

Unfortunately, we also have a president who:

1. Can't pronounce anything with more than two syllables.

2. Had only been out of the country 3 times before he was put into office. (foreign policy? yeah right)

3. Is more worried about how the Rangers are doing this year than the unemployment rate.

4. Has way too many friends in big business, and will probably screw the little guy to make them happy.

5. Has allowed 24 American servicemen to sit in a Chinese jail without taking any real action to get them out.

We would have been so much better off with Harry Browne or Ralph Nader. Too bad the American public doesn't understand that the major parties aren't going to make any real changes in the way this country is run.

Bitchgoddess-
I'd have to agree with absolutely everything you said. I can't understand why anyone would really care for anything Bush does. Republican or Democrat. I think everyone should know if they don't already that the man is a complete idiot. Money can buy you a lot of things, even an education... on paper at least. That man's as unintelligent as politicians can get. I'm not saying that I could do a better job as President, because I probably couldn't. But, the issue is this, we elected someone who won only because his Daddy was the president and he has lots of money. That's the way I see it. In the way of Republican's I'm almost sure McCain would have done a better job. I don't know what political standing I have... I'm pretty sure I'm not a republican, and I really don't know all that much about Democrats, but I would have voted McCain over Gore. Gore unfortunately has many fantastic ideas but is again to corrupted by a system that will never be put down. The people will never elect someone able to change things, because the big corporations are the people who put our president into office. No one's going to back someone that can actually make things change for the better. We have this need to be the bully, and we always will.

As for Nader and Browne? Eh, I really don't think they had very many good ideas, and we'd probably only a tiny bit less screwed than we are now.

InThrees... man, I don't understand people like you at all.

I like how George W(hereafter refered to as GW) made that 10 year tax cut proposal. He's saying "I have an idea, and it might not work, since I will only be in office 4 or 8 years, even if it doesnt work during that time, it's ok." One thing that always pissed me off about GW, his eyes. I am one of those people that judges other people by thier eyes. So when I see his eyes, I see confusion. Like a little child he is. His eyes are close together.. have that damn childish sparkle, and are always dumbfounded. When I saw him in the State of the Union address.. wow he looked lost. Gore would have been better as a president, but oh well. Can't argue, it won't help.

No one seems to be mentioning Dubya's environmental policy. That of course being, fuck the environment, go big business. Tax cuts won't help when the human race is extinct. Now, I'm not some damned tree-hugger trying to save the spotted pond scum, but anyone who has looked at the facts can see we are headed for some serious trouble if we don't turn things around. And with the decisions Dubya has made so far, things don't look too good. Well, maybe the next intelligent species to rise to prominence on Earth will not fuck themselves so willingly.

Oh yeah, h.

Oh, and let's not forget his ridiculous little violation of those separation of church and state laws. Now I don't want to offend any of you who willingly worship some higher power, but I don't want this shit shoved directly down my throat ever in any way shape or form. I wish I could remember exactly what it was that he was trying to do... damn it, it escapes me. But, I'll tell ya this, it costed money, in my eyes violated church/state laws, and just generally pissed me and a lot of my friends off. Now... if I could just remember...

I don't think the two party system allows for a fair election, either. Case in point, I pooped in a plastic bag, and announced its candidacy for president under the name of Twiggles McLeary. In the final count, it recieved only three votes - myself, an unknown supporter, and an elderly woman in Florida (that last one wasn't even counted!). Essentially, no one. Why? Two party system.

That folks is my two cents.

Ok... I'll be the first to admit that we've taken the Bush bashing on the main page a couple of steps too far.... BUT:

I have a REAL problem with the statement "Yes, Gore really did lose the election"

There were so many things wrong with the ballots in MANY states, not just florida, that we should really look into new systems of doing the voting before the next national election. The fact of the matter is, we dont know who won, we will NEVER know who won, and the electoral college voted for Bush. Simple. We dont know... But the popular vote is only a guidline anyhow.

That doesn't mean I dont think he's the biggest mistake in the history of the whole fucking country though. I hope that his VP doesn't die and actually leave him in charge

I would like to announce my candidacy in the 2004 presidential election, running on the poop in a bag platform. I would like to ask Twiggles McLeary to be my running mate. Together, we will change the world for the better.

Slogan: Poop in a bag; just think about it for a second.

on the topic of tax cuts:

it's not like there's a big fucking pile of money in the basement of the capital building and the gw is trying to pry it loose from where mean old clinton and gore hid it.

the "surplus" is the amount of money that was projected to be left over after the government got done spending our taxes for the next 10 years. in other words, the usa would have this 1 billion dollars bush plans to "refund" if the economy stayed ike it did in 1999-2000.

it didn't.

unless the biggest economic bubble in recent history makes a quick trip back around on it's way to dot com hell, there is not going to be that kind of surplus nor anything like it any time soon. to cash the checks his dumb ass wrote to get into office, bush is going to have to cut into projected spending.

or he can make like his father and say fuck his campaign tax promises. "read my lips", anyone?

edit: rotton mixed metaphors... my thoughts need to learn to stay in formation.

Sorry nuentoter, I disagree, apologizing will open a whole new can 'o worms, and make us look pretty much like China's bitch to the rest of the world. We just can't do it. And there was really no reason for us not to be there, it was international airspace, and every nation that has the ability flies that kind of plane around every othre nation for GP's. We've been doing it for years, and their pilots have been harrassing ours for years. That one pilot wasn't as good as he thought, and collided with our plane, if anything, they should apologize for allowing a pilot like that to fly that kind of mission.

I hate discussing politics. But here's my two cents.

1) I never would have voted for Bush because of his environmental policy, or lack thereof. I think it is terrible to cave to the oil companies and anyone else who will give him money for a short term benefit that will have extremely long-lasting environmental repercussions. What a selfish idiot.

2) While I agree Gore would have been marginally better and has the personality of a wet sock, at least he's literate.

3) I think the solution to this is to eliminate the electoral college. Candidates don't campaign in states they know they will win. They focus on the ones in contention and that have the largest number of electoral votes. Many people don't vote because they know their state always goes one way or another. Plus, the other candidates like Nader don't get enough votes because we all know enough other people won't vote for him to get electoral votes.

3) I think we should do like some other countries and make it a national holiday for presidential elections. Give everyone the day off so they have time to vote, make it more socially acceptable to vote, use the press to advantage to make sure people know where their polling places are and to summarize the issues without all the clutter. I get so many fliers from candidates and not a single one mentions where I should go to vote for them. That would seem to make sense.

Good idea about the voting holiday and all. Tical and I moved to a different county 6 months before election day, and forgot to reregister. What a nightmare. We registered on line 2 months prior to election day, but didn't get the paperwork till about October, our state requires you to be registered 45 days before the election. I called the local voter registration headquarters, and they told me to vote using a special ballot, which we did. About a month after the election we got letters saying that our vote wasn't counted because we had voted in the wrong county. Boy did I get pissed. I called them again and apparently the votes were sent to the correct precinct, but damn, what a pain in the ass.

It doesn't matter(much) who wins any given presidential election. The candidates are merely puppets. The main qualifications for a president in today's government are charisma , suggestibility and an appearance of statelihood or authority. The candidates that make it the farthest are the ones who can be the best marionettes. The ideas that spring forth from their mouths are not their own. Their actions and policies are scripted for them.
George W won the republican nomination because of his name and his inability to say no. Gore won his for similar reasons. Do you think Gore could actually do anything to help our environment?
Someone was complaining earlier that W was bought by big business. What the fuck does that mean? Everyone in government is bought. So is the media.
This China crisis is a joke. It doesn't mean shit. It will not cause WWIII, it will not amount to any trade problems, but it will take up newscaster breath for sometime.
You guys are letting the fnords fuck with you. Everything is just as fucked up as it was a day/month/year ago. China crisis? oh no! Can I still buy eggrolls or is that considered siding with the reds?
Um...

Mmm....fnords....

I prefer fjords myself. I have an award for my many fjords. Want to see my spaceship? I'm painting it pink! It looks just like an italian restaurant!

Speaking of Douglas Adams...Do you remember how the universe was run in his books? There was only ONE person in the entire universe who made all decisions...and he didn't know he was doing it.

The Galactic president (Zaphod Beeblebrox) was only for show. In fact: he was chosen entirely because he would provide the best distractions. He had no real power.

However: I like to maintain the happy fantasy that it is possible for a man to get into that 'esteemed' office and actually make a difference. Sure, that difference may only be in vetoing shit...but hey! Every little bit helps!

Let me live in my fantasy world damn you! I see a world where little zombie boys and little zombie girls can live in peace with...oh wait... thats not my line. Nevermind.

sigh.

i guess it's solved where bush is getting the money for his tax cuts. slash and burn for federal programs. i suppose that falls in line with his position on federal funds anyways, but he's gone out of his way to cut things even more to pay off his electoral bribe.

the worst part? he characterized the cuts as "protecting our surplus". in other words there's going to be a surplus because gw needs to give us back a surplus. and if the numbers don't behave as well as they did in the drunken coke-fueled haze he made this shit up in, by all that's holy he'll make them.

and the dirty fucker was visibly restraining himself from laughing at the press conference. maybe the sound byte of it i saw removed the part where the circus clown ran through the oval office or maybe he was carrying on clinton's traditions under that desk, but nevertheless i am insulted. was he absent the day they taught lying with a straight face in politician school?

damn it. at least if that ass clown gore was president we could be sure he would lie to us without cracking a smile. hell. fucking gore could smile without cracking a smile.

arrgh...

now, now. who would have though a harmless subject like politics would get y'all so riled up? i've gotten a fair amount of mail defending the dummy, our prez. good, he needs your help. he can't even *say* subliminal, much less see past it. and as far as nader or browne's ideas, who cares? right now, i just feel it's important to vote outside of the two party system. it's not like they'll get elected or something.
anyway, i'd be curious to know how many of you penisites think that the "third party" recounting of the ballots done by a floridian news agency was legit?

Probably not.

Well, not in my lifetime anyways. We'll always be the corporately run country, because people by corporately produced shit. You can't escape it. Everything eventually goes cooperate if it gets big enough. It's unfortunate as fuck, but there's not a damn thing one, two, or a message board of people can do. Corporations rule this country, hence they rule the world... we're the big brother, no one wants to lose that.
