making the gifs isn't too hard using gimp or w4r3z3d photoshop. the tricky part is finding web space to put them on. geoshitties used to ideal but now they're not allowing external links to images.anyone got ideas for web space? incidentally, how's netscape's support for png? works fine in ie but navigator's been a little below the curve lately. if they both support it, png would be much better than gif as long as you don't need animation. lower file size and a clear conscience. Bex:You have a W4r3... -er.. Recently registered copy on the computer. How to make the damn things animated though, is beyond me. That is not a program for beginners The provided help features really are inadequate. IP: Logged |

You have to use ImageReady, not Photoshop itself - ImageReady comes included with, er, "recently registered" copies of Photoshop 5.0 and up.It's what I use. You just make the different "frames" of animation as different layers in the document, and then create ACTUAL frames in the Animation window itself - each frame has only certain layers set to be visible, so that's how you make your animation. There are freeware animated GIF makers out there too, but I haven't fucked with any of them in quite some time. IP: Logged |

deez: lower filesizes with png than gif? Really?Every time I've tried to experiment with png, the goddamn things have been ENORMOUS. Fucking huge. Never could slim them down to anything usable. IP: Logged |

You can also make simple animations in flash and export them as gif89s (animated gifs).fen IP: Logged |

i've put up a page comparing gif with both rgb and indexed mode png. i've noted some differences between the formats and the alt text for each image shows the size for each. www.geocities.com/deeznutsclan/smiley.html one note that's not in my comparison. netscape will display pngs but it's buggy as hell. for example transparency doesn't seem to work at all. ie is a little better; transparency works in indexed mode but still no go in rgb. oh, well, indexed mode is smaller anyway if you don't need more than 256 colors. so, anyways, gif looks better if you want animation or transparency (since broke ass netscape won't do it), while png is better if you don't need the above extras or if you want your smiley in 24-bit color. All of those smileys refuse to show file size for me... "-1 bytes."I think it has something to do with the way they're CHMODded. Fucking IE5.5 - I uninstalled that shit, but it's still screwing with me. Half the time I can only save GIFs and JPGs as BMPs when I right click them now, too. Fucking IE5.5. IP: Logged |

Ok, perhaps I should have been clearer. I know how to make the animated .gifs, what I meant was the actual code to get them in the posts, not just links. You know, the cool little ::hoser:: type things. ------------------ Ain't that the drizzlin shits? IP: Logged |

the image size is in the alt text for each image. i guess you'll just have to trust me. anyone else have this problem? i can pull up image properties in ie5.5 just fine. actually, to tell the truth you can't trust me. the pngs are each about 10 bytes or so larger than what's listed since i added something to the header to try and get transparency working better. but the general observations hold. Damn you mighty mon your as bad as a user. The ::gayness:: is just doing a link to some sort of image. You can save it a step by just hotlinking it yourself. But to answer your question.. Heheh, yes there is a way to add it in and you need to be an admin to do it. I can add them in if you want me to. IP: Logged |

Smileys suck. Suck suck suck. I say, there are only two smileys you should ever really need: with a hyphen, and without. If you need any more than that, go try out AOL 6.0 - I heard it's better than ever!------------------ With proper thrust, pigs fly just fine. --RFC 1925 IP: Logged |
