Has anyone seen the new video for Fatboy Slim's new song "Weapon of Choice?" It's friggin' great. Christopher Walken is my hero. I've watched the video like a 100 times. It's a rad song to boot, so if you get the chance be sure to sit down and watch.

Anyone got a avi/mpeg on that one? I can't seem to catch it on TV here. Saw a little piece of it though...
I'm not going to watch MTV 24/7... I hate commercials...

WAAAAAAY back when MTV was an infant, they played videos all the time.
Now-a-days they play show after show after show.
When do the videos actually get played anyway?
Who has seen MTV2? What's that about?
Damn, I'm old.

Amazon - the good old days of MTV. Oh how beautiful they are in comparison to what there is now. I want to see that cool Rammstein video with the ants, not MTV: Cribs. I don't feel like wasting a (half?)hour of my time to see Master P and his "14 Karat gold plated..." "24 karat gold ceiling..." "14 karat gold pool table.." Too much fucking gold. This would be the MTV: Cribs of my house :

"Ok, here is the garage, it has my mom's car in it, and in the back is a large railroad spike thing. Through this door is the breezeway. It's the entrance to my crib. Through this door is the kitchen/dining room, decent sized with a TV in it. To the right is the living room... not much living going on in there, it's just a room for dust. From the living room you can go upstairs! The room upstairs and to the left is my dad's office, it has TWO attic entrances..." etc etc etc. The little MTV watchers would be like "Wow, that house is like mine. I can relate to that!" Hence, I would be a star based on mediocricy(is that even a word? hehe).

Yea I rambled, oh well.

I used to watch MTV in 1981. There were about 4 VJ's in a crummy little studio who would gab a little, but not much and they showed videos constantly. Then they added Music News. Then Yo! MTV Raps and 90 Minutes at a later date. Now you watch the top 20 videos or whatever, hosted by nauseatingly "cool" people and I have no idea how these videos ever earned a ranking since NO ONE SEES THEM. VH1 is getting to be just as bad although Behind the Music is less inane.

This is why I don't bother with cable. All I'd ever watch would be Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel. $50 a month for that? Puh-leaze.

mtv2 actually looked pretty promising. when they launched it a while back, they cut into mtv programming and broadcast mtv2 over it a few hours out of every day. it was much better. lots of videos, a lot of them by small(er) artists, and the music wasn't as segregated as it is on the main channel. top 40 stuff would be played next to old school rap moving into indie rock. too bad i've never seen it actually offered by a cable company.

mtv used to still be tolerable if you watched it late at night. there was shows like amp, 120 minutes, and lots of short run shows for various genres. they were video heavy and played a lot of stuff you don't get to see during the daytime (not like boobs or fire or anything, but bands you wouldn't see played over the regular n'sync crap). alas most of the regular late night shows are either gone or neutered (120 minutes was just never the same without pinfield's drooling fanboy-like awe and bottomless pool of trivia) and late night has been colonized by real world reruns. so it sucks like the rest of the channel.

I remember the debut of MTV, at E's Locker Room, the sports bar/pizza parlor. My sisters and I went to see it, and it was cool. It was another year or so before we could get it added to our cable package. Remember when the video for Thriller came out and it was a big deal?

Now I have cable, and I pay $38 a month pretty much just for the History channel. There's some good shit on History at 3am. Everything else on TV sucks. Except for the Cartoon Network, Scooby Doo is the shit. Check out tha Asshole Cynic to see why I am so incoherent at the moment.

I pretty much only record the same shows. Tuesday: That 70's Show, Titus, Case Studies in Forensic Science, and the FBI files.
Thursday: Whose Line is it anyway?, and occasionally Charmed. Friday: The Lone Gunmen (cool show), Saturday: America's Most Wanted and......... you guessed it, Xena. (Oh, Aries, God of War... take me NOW!)
I don't know why we even have cable.... Oh, yeah... Florida has terrible reception without it.

Yeh.. that's the only show I remember fondly, was liquid television. There was a terrific trippy toon to the tune of (whoah) "What a wonderful world".. and aeon flux, and of course a whole series of shorts by the guy who draws the KMFDM shirts. ("I drove loudly over to Squealer's to get the dough for the babe...")

Aeon flux's first season was unbelievable. Then when they all started talking it started to suck.

Yeah, I'm old.

Fen,

I was just trying to remember the name of Aeon Flux. I loved Liquid Television. Dooooog Boyyyyyy. But Aeon Flux was my favorite. The best part was that no one talked! There was also a longer cartoon they showed a couple times where this guy was racing some weird vehicle around a circular track and got going so fast he basically disintigrated and his car just kept going around and around and around. I wish I could remember what it was called. I have a bunch of Liquid Television episodes on tape, but never caught that one.

Ahhh the memories. I remember seeing Ren and Stimpy and Beavis and Butthead shorts (Frog Baseball) at the sick and twisted festival of animation years and years ago. This was a while before they came out with the series. I also saw the Milton shorts (became the basis for Office Space).

MTV2... I thought it was the coolest thing for the first 2 days I had it. But then I realized that like mtv they also play the same songs over and over again, only there maybe 40 videos instead of mtv's 20. Much music is a little different. It's the canadian version of mtv. 30 videos rotated over and over again. More canadians. Add it all up and it amounts to diddley shit. There used to be a program on some weird little station, don't remember the names on either but they played some cool shit. It was like the soundtracks to skate and snowboard vids only it was the artists videos instead of skaters. The MAXX. I miss that guy... sniff...
