OK, I bit this from FC, but I wanted to see what everyone thought....CLICKY OK, so not Netscape.com is a MEDIA site. I bet that partnering with AOL and REAL will bring them to new heights in the tech frontier. Right.

Netscape 6 was a steaming pile of horse shit, but it still makes me sad to see that they are leaving the browser business.Maybe all those Netscape coders who left before 6 and created their own company will produce something instead of spending all their times in various message boards complaining. ...or not. -Chris IP: Logged |

Does this mean I don't have to develop for 3 completely different browsers anymore?!? (IE, NS4.08, NS6)That would be HEAVEN! IP: Logged |

What, doesn't anyone code for Opera? Its strange though, because when I look at stats for websites it seems that anywhere between 5-10% of people still use Netscape. Shit, the pen stats sometimes show users with N3! Very very strange indeed. Besides, I didnt' think anyone except very large corporate sites even attempted to code for N6. -Chris IP: Logged |

I still code for 4.5, was still testing on 4.05 until recently. On of our biggest clients is Oracle, so the still are not using IE. Or so they say. BLAH!We shall see. But anytime I see something negative about netscape I get a warm fuzzy one. IP: Logged |

Its interesting.... I did some research and found that Netscape 6 was built on Mozilla 0.7... In other words, Mozilla doesn't feel its "done" enough to make into a fully fledged browser, but Netscape went ahead and used it as the base anyhow. The reasoning? Its kinda like the new games being released lately. Release it as soon as possible and then release updates and patches for it later. Damn they're taking a long time with the patches though, and in the meantime Mozilla is up to version 0.92. Hrm. How many more years before they make it to version 1.0? At least they seem to be finally doing something besides complaining in message boards.
It will be interesting to see if they can ever work the bugs out of their browser and get support for plug ins and etc. Oh... and according to the "code tester" I found on their website, No code I use (or any on the pen page, or any on any page for that matter) is really W3C compliant. Yeah... apparently W3C doesn't recognize 'A' tags ...they still got a little ways to go I fear. -Chris IP: Logged |
