I just read an article on Carpal TunnelTurns out that using keyboards for extended periods of time doesn't increase your risk. The one thing the study forgets to "research" is people who chronically masterbate. IP: Logged |

Ok, define "extended periods of time". My mother worked for YEARS on typewriters, computers, etc. (Not years continuously, mind you) and she had to have the muscles in her wrists reattached. Yes, REATTACHED! She was even able to get Worker's Comp for this.Carpal Tunnel can indeed be caused by a keyboard. ------------------ Is she not right? Is she insane? IP: Logged |

I notice too that it didn't mention people who use the mouse almost exclusively 4 hours a day is NOT heavy usage... at least not among some circles.. -Chris IP: Logged |

Doesn't predisposition have something to do with it? I mean, some people may use a comp all their lives, eight hours a day and never hurt, and some will. Weird.------------------ One for sorrow two for joy Three for girls four for boys Five for silver six for gold Seven for a secret never to be told IP: Logged |

Well, thats argueable for anything. I mean, some people have high metabolisms and can eat their weight in food a day and stay skinny. However, as a *general* rule, I think clme is correct. IP: Logged |

I was under the impression that carpal tunnel results from repetitive motion and constriction of nerves in the wrist. At least that's what the doctor told me when I was found to have a mild case during pregnancy. It seems that with pregnancy, your veins tend to expand, leaving less room for nerves, which causes parts of your wrist and hands to go numb or ache incessantly. In my case it went away for a while, but I've been told to expect it to return later in life due to my line of work and my predisposition. I still have occasional numbness, but I'm not sure if it's the beginning of real carpal tunnel or not. I was also told by my physical therapist that numbness could result from the shoulder injuries I sustained in the military. I've pretty much decided to stop believing what doctors say for the most part, they seem to make shit up as they go along more often than not. IP: Logged |

I sometimes get the feeling that doctors are kind of like tech support people. "Yeah, that's the kind of problem you'll see a lot under these conditions. There's really not that much we can do."IP: Logged |
