Seems that after all these years of education and rights, we'd all know that it is not acceptable to keep your 8 year old locked in a closet. No such luck.Seems to me that it is easy to be a teen mother nowadays. If you don't want your baby, you wrap it in a backpack and throw it into a canal. Then, when you get caught, you claim you thought it was stillborn. Then, when there is not enough evidence to keep you until the yet unscheduled trial, you can go home. (Read: Aimee Weiss) I am about sick to death of these stories. When I take over the world, it will be MADATORY for EVERYONE to be on some sort of birth control. It will be necessary to get a license to have children. Ah, to dream. ------------------

A licence to have children. Hmmm.You mean like in China, where if you give birth to an "unauthorized" child, they inject formaldehyde into its skull just as it's crowning? Yeah, real nice. People WILL have children, even if it's illegal.
What will you do with the illegal children that are bound to show up? Let the parents keep it? That will only encourage illegal children. Put the illegal children in orphanages? That'll be very expensive. Nah, it would be better to make sterilisation mandatory for all girls. IP: Logged |

Most people may think that China's "one child rule" is a bit inhumane, but I think it's even more inhumane by epic porportions to have nine babies and not raise even one of them. Fucking selfish assholes who try to in-vitro-fertilize themselves when there are orphans-a-plenty everywhere. No rants, I promise. But Jesus people! Maybe it isn't as inhumane as we think. As far as the illegal children thing, I like the mandatory birth control, and the license thing, but it's completely impossible. Dreaming is all we can do I fear, because we Americans like our right to ANYTHING WE FUCKING PLEASE.------------------

Well, China is getting itself into some real trouble.
Daughters are pretty useless to your average poor chinese family. And because of the one child rule, female babies have this nasty habit of "accidentally" getting killed so the parents can get another shot. A boy will take care of his parents when they're too old to work and therefore, much more valuable.It's true, something has to be done. There are too many children born to parents who have no way to support them. Birth control is a good one.
My country (The Netherlands) has one of the lowest numer of unwanted pregnancies and abortions in the "west", as apposed to the US, who has about the highest. I haven't got a clue what makes those numbers so different. Yeah, a LOT of young girls use birthcontrol pills here. It's completely normal and accepted. Morning-after pills are also legal here, as are abortions. I wish I knew a solution. IP: Logged |

Yeah, the US has come a long way, but we still need to get over that stigma about birth control and abortion. I think it's a hell of a lot more responsible to use birth control or even early-term abortion than to have twenty kids for which you have no support structure. The morning after pill is legal here now, but you'd be hard-pressed to find it in most areas that are not "liberal." Planned Parenthood is a life-saver for most young, poor women. At least it's legal and women no longer have to go to back-alleys for coathanger botch-ups and die from infection. Wow. That wasn't very long ago either. My grandmother has horror stories of their high school friends who went through that and didn't make it out alive. I value life as much as the next guy, which is why I support population control. It's hard enough as it is without the amount of people exploding. We need to get our birth rate down. Africa is the worst. No education and not much hope there. I have no answers either. Wow - we some smart ones, yeah. Discuss all day but come up with no solutions...  ------------------

They DO, on the other hand, have an extremely high rate of deliberate female infanticide. Besides being horrifying in itself, this is bound to create some SERIOUS sociological problems - it's a proven fact, as witnessed throughout history, that the only thing more aggressive than a young male is a young male in a society WITH MANY MORE YOUNG MALES THAN YOUNG FEMALES.Not real damn hard to see why, either. And incidentally, the reason why the Netherlands has a lower rate of teen pregnancy is simple - because they don't attach a huge stigma to teens using birth control. The pill is common and accepted in the US, abortion is legal, and the morning after pill is becoming more widespread. The problem we have in this country are the people who believe they can make everyone else's choices for them. This week a doctor's office in Tacoma was bombed because he happens to perform abortions. It's ok to kill doctors, but not ok to end a life that hasn't even begun yet, and will most likely be hellish if it is forced to begin. Makes sense, doesn't it? What we need to do is sterilize all the right to lifers who breed hatemongers like themselves.(I do not believe in abortion, I believe that life begins at conception, and could never kill a child that I am bearing. Let's see.Teenagers these days are having sex a hell of a lot [ just not me... ]Accidents happen. I say the people that made the kid are stuck with it. If they cannot support it, and it dies, they get some form of punishment. They aided in the death of someone, because they didn't have the money to support it. Simple as that. Sure, it has it critisms, but seriously, think about it. Do you think teens will be super-ultra careful when they have sex if they know that if the baby dies, they will be punished? I do...
