first: how the fuck do i rip a CD? i dont know what to use. all it ever says in explorer is that its a *.cda file. I want to convert it to MP3. second: i have cute FTP.. and uhh.. i want to hook up some people with some tracks.. i just got 5.5 gigs of MP3's. All underground hip hop for you heads.. i guess maybe a whole 3 people are excited now... but anyways... yeah... school will be in session. Peterparkin'wiggin.

Jimbo... thanks. but since i have the "trial version" or whatever... it will only "handle" half of the tracks on the CD... it so happens that the checkbox isn't placed in front of the track i want to make an MP3 out of. is there a way around this? or do you have a "full version" that i could borrow from you? that would be nice.. thanks.PeterWiggin IP: Logged |

1) you can use about any sound player to get the music from the cd into a wave file. winamp can do it pretty easy. use the file output module under output plugins. from there just run the .wav through an encoder to get it to .mp3. my roommate used to use one called blade encoder that was availible freely. this is a little more complicated, but it's an option if trial versions of integrated tools aren't working and you can't/won't use a cracked one..2) geoshitties. for all your (questionable) file needs. it's slow and likely to delete things, but it's also free and you can access it with either an ftp client or through a really easy web interface for uploading. Audiograbber is an INSANELY awesome ripper, doesn't cost much at all, and I refuse to pirate it.Some things, you just feel good about spending money on. For me, Audiograbber was one of those. IP: Logged |

lol, nice reply jimbo.Peter- some shareware developers are really cool people who make a great product and hope someone will be decent enough to pay. If you don't want to support them, its your business, but don't jump down some stranger's throat because he isn't itching to help you fuck some poor dev that he probably likes and respects more than he likes and respects you. oh... so I'm whining? Whatever i was just being sarcastic... It's not like i really need to rip whole CD's on a daily basis... i was just trying to get one track to MP3 from a CD... Jimbo probably doesn't even like hip-hop with actual lyrical content anyways... he probably wouldn't want to listen to anything in my collection.... i mean.. hip-hop is just shit like the Thong Song right????? the point of my comment to Jimbo is that regardless of how much i respect a true hip-hop group, producer, solo-emcee or DJ... I love to spread the knowledge and the words they say, especially to people who are sleepin' on what i feel is some of the most cutting edge shit around... Mostly because.. NO ONE WOULD BUY IT UNLESS I TURNED THEM ON TO IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.. no one is going to go buy some random CD/Record called Atmosphere - Overcast.. or some Sage Francis - still sick.. or some fuck in' Aceyalone - Accepted Eclectic/Book of Human Language/All balls don't bounce. etc. Audiograbber can lick my nuts for all i care.. I'm glad that your jockin the dev's and want to support people you think do a good job... but Im not going buy the thing regardless... hence.. i could get it for free or not have it.. either way is fine. and what i gathered from Jimbo is that he is willing to pirate something that he doesn't feel is so well constructed/developed or something he's not favoring at the moment. But audiograbber isn't one of those... in essance... he is jugding things and determining what is worthy of pirating and what isn't.... sounds kind of pretentious to me thats all. Talk about jumpin down a strangers throat. who called who a fuckin loser? suck my pen, and drain the ink... loser? next time remember to think... Peter-loser-Wiggin IP: Logged |

You know nothing at all about my musical tastes, whereas I know that you get all whiny about being informed that I'm not willing to help you screw the guy that wrote the best program on the market, but is only asking $20 to register it instead of selling it in the stores for $90 or $120.And yes, I prequalify what I will and won't pirate based on a cost:value basis. I don't think this makes me "high and mighty", I think it makes me "reasonable." I registered WinAMP back when it was possible to pay $15 to do so - even though it wasn't crippled. I paid $20 for Audiograbber. I paid for WinZip way back in the day - something like $19. I paid $39.95 for something called Fast File Undelete, which does all that it promises. Ditto for another $39.95 product called NetScanTools. Why? Because they're all INSANELY valuable, I use the snot out of them, they're dirt-cheap, and the shareware model makes them VERY convenient both to test-drive and to acquire on a moment's notice... and frankly, I'd like to KEEP it that way. If you want to p1r8 any or all of the above, fine - that's between you and your conscience... even though I have a lot of difficulty believing that a college kid can't afford to spend $20 on something he'll get HOURS and HOURS of use out of. But whatever, it's your call. And it doesn't even make you a loser. Whining about me not HELPING you steal it, on the other hand - not to mention taking cheap ad hominem shots at me and my musical taste - which you know ABSOLUTELY nothing about - is another story entirely. Loser. [edited to clarify my opinion of the shareware model.] [This message has been edited by Jimbo (edited 06-28-2001).] IP: Logged |
