My tooth hell began early last December when one of my molars began the
off - on pain boogie. On December 25th the pain opted to stay in the on position.
December 26th, my dentist meets me for a "emergency" (i.e. lots more money)
office visit and performs a "temporary" cap/filling/whatever-the-hell procedure, additionally
he gives me 30 Lortab (7.5mg hydrocodone, 500mg tylenol) pills with 2 refills.
So I take the dope for the next few weeks/days - I really don't remember.
I go back to the dealer...........ahh dentist, for the follow up visit. Seems I need a root
canal now. He does the root canal, and pots a "temporary" cap on the tooth.
More pills...........fucking tooth hurts worse than before now. I call dentist, he says
the tooth nerves have to settle down, this may take a WEEK!. He calls more pills
into the pharmacy. By this time one pill isn't cutting it, I'm taking 2 or 3 every 4-6
hours..........or is that 4-6 pills every 2-3 hours - I really don't remember.
A week goes by, back to the dentist.........the f-ing tooth is INFECTED!, he cleans
it out and puts me on a antibiotic - and more pills. The mf-ing tooth worse than ever now.
I go back the following week for a "bite" adjustment - at this point he is running out of
things to try and I'm a f-ing pill addict. A week goes by............I get into arguments with
Rite-Aid pharmacy clerks because I'm trying to fill my dope prescriptions TOO SOON.
Why the f should they care if I go through life as a senseless zombie in a hydrocodone
bubble?. My wife and 2 daughters want their daddy back............what the hell does that mean?
Another week passes, a last ditch bite adjustment......... more pills. We throw in the towel
and resolve to extract the tooth. At the last minute, my wife convinces me to go to her
dentist and get a second opinion about pulling the tooth. I go to her dentist and he convinces
me to go to a endodontist for a SECOND root canal, my wife's dentist offers me pills, I accept.
By the way my dental plan will not cover 2 root canals on the same tooth. So this guy
doer a second root canal on the tooth...........to no avail, the damn thing won't stop hurting.
Back to original dentist for extraction. He pulls the tooth, sends me home with more pills.
I go back the following week to get the stitches out, of course the tooth socket is infected.
It's not a total loss however, he gives me more pills and refills. The following week my wife
flushes my last 30 pills down the shitter (I was PISSED). The next week I did the hydrocodone
detox boogie, not a whole lot of fun. The tooth (or lack of tooth) stopped hurting. This story
is true, my tooth from hell lasted from Dec 26, 2000 to March 14, 2001. I went through
at least 300 pain pills. The tooth has cost me over $2,000 (after my dental insurance paid their part).
Now I have a hole in my mouth that feels larger than the grand canyon, It's strange how a
hole less than 1/2" in diameter can feel so LARGE. I'm thinking of an implant to replace
this tooth it will cost a least $2,300 (f-ing insurance doesn't pay for implants.)
By the way.......good luck Wednesday at you dentist appointment.

Orajel and Ibuprofen have been my best friends through 4 fallen out fillings, 1 abcess that required 2 ER visits in one weekend (because dentists don't fucking CARE if you're in pain on a saturday!), 2 teeth that have decayed so far that they have both broken off to tiny gray dead hard chips sticking out of my gums and 1 extraction.Say it with me...
