ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — One man apparently liked Green
Eggs and Ham a little too much. The 25-year-old Ann Arbor man was arrested Friday on
an outstanding warrant because he failed to appear in
court to explain why he has not returned two
children's books from a Westland library.
Authorities had charged him with failing to return
library materials, a misdemeanor that carries a
penalty of up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine.
Ann Arbor police Officer Mark Raab, who made the
arrest, said he felt bad for the man, who had checked
out the Dr. Seuss classic and another book in 1997,
then failed to return them. But, Raab said, the law is
the law.
"Overall it's kind of odd that you would arrest
someone for not returning library books," Raab said.
"But I guess the library has to do what it has to do
to get its books back."
Raab discovered the warrant after the man was involved
in a minor traffic accident.
The man posted $200 bond to avoid a night in jail.
Police declined to release the man's name.
