Anyone who is curious how I spend my free time can find me at the Russian M59 server lately ... A little history: M59 is older than dirt (pre Ultima Online) ... a MORG with a mideval theme. Essentially a chat room from hell with an ugly interface, horribly pixelated scenery and creatures, numerous bugs, obnoxious sounds, and a very eclectic mix of players. Originally developed by a couple guys in their garage, the developers were bought out by 3DO (yes those Army Men homos) which was the beginning of the death knell for this game in the states. All servers in America have been down about a year now, the German servers were up until recently, so for now the only server left a rogue server located in Russia. Apparently 3DO at one point left a copy of the server software up on their website, and it wasn't totally secure ..... There is a lot of interest in purchasing the rights to the game, but 3DO is holding out for $100,000 for the code. Unless they can come up with a more reasonable figure, there will probably not be another American server until it is considered abandonware. Anyhow, the Russian 109 server is free, so if you are curious you can register at http://www.meridian59.ru/. The best site which covers all spells, skills, and registration questions can be found at http://www.gilcon.net/meridian/ Anyone who is curious, needs help with registration, or has questions about the mechanics of the game can message Tacitus (my character) in the game ... or edit your post accordingly! A good bit of my free time has been spent on a free UO shard lately, one run by a 17 year old Canadian HS senior. (his grade translates into HS senior, anyway.)I'm amazed how much better a 17 year old can run a UO shard than fugga *OSI* could. -3 IP: Logged |
