dont mean to get all speculated and that on here, but I just want to know wahtyou guys think about this......

on TV , the FBI announced that there is a possibililty the PA plane may have been shot down,

umm think about it,
if one of the F-16 pilots shot it down, they would know....i mean, the pilot knows whether he shot it down or not...

and if it wasn't shot down why would they make this statement?

so im just wondering if they don't want the families to knnow yet that their husbands/wives whatever, were killed by an american fighter, if / when they may have had control of the plane...

damn, there's so much information we will never find out about this tradjedy..

No, they announced that fighter jets had been scrambled for all the jetliners. Apparently an air traffic controller at Boston called the FBI (I believe) when he was informed the first plane was hijacked. The military was informed and F16s were scrambled but couldn't get anywhere near the jets before they crashed into the Towers. They were also scrambled towards Washington and Pennsylvania but again did not reach the planes in time. Apparently when the plane went down in PA, the fighters were still 60 miles out.

Of course, that's the military's story. My initial thought (on Tuesday) was that they had indeed shot down that plane. But eyewitness accounts that I've heard on NPR say that the plane just nosedived.

And it does turn out that there was a Korean Airlines jet headed towards LA, I think, that reported as being hijacked on Tuesday and was forced down in Canada, but it wasn't really hijacked. WTF is up with that?

I think the important question here is this:

Would they have shot it down if they had to?

I know I'm probably a bad person for saying this, but I sure as hell hope so, and I wouldn't blame the gov't for not telling us either.

There are people out there that would not understand the idea of shooting down a plane with 90 people in it to save a thousand (or more).

Plus, you have to admit: If a plane were to be shot down, they picked about the best damn spot out there to do it in. No one around to get hurt for miles.

but like i said i hate speculation

The guy who called on his cell phone from the PA plane reported a 'bang' and white smoke filling the cabin before the plane crashed- a missle strike?

I'd much rather believe that the passengers had the juevos to try to take back the plane- butthat's also what makes it the perfect cover story.

Well, looks like we have to wait for the transcript of the "black box".
Now why is it called a "black box" when the thing is actually orange???

Still, I have utter faith that the plane was not shot down but instead crashed by the passengers.

Yes, this goes under the policy of "not negotiating with terrorists". Probably the first attempt should to "force" that piane down, if not possible then it must be shot down. Especially in view of the happenings of Tuesday (9/11) morning.

On an (almost) entirely unimportant note, a "bang" followed by a cloud of white smoke in the compartment would be FAR more likely due to autocannon fire than a missile strike. A missile strike would be LOTS LOTS LOTS more catastrophic than anyone would describe as a "bang and some smoke".

The reason I said it was almost unimportant is that you might be able to force a passenger jet down without killing everyone aboard by trying to disable it with selective bursts of autocannon fire. Given what a sitting duck a Boeing 767 would be to fighter jets, and the fact that this one was out in the middle of nowhere, I certainly hope the pilots of any hypothetical fighter craft would at least try "winging" it and letting it go down easy.

For that matter, missiles are fucking expensive. ::shrugs::
