I did, though admittedly not from an online vendor - I went to some random place in town that advertised do-it-yourself divorce kits for $90 over the counter. It worked just fine. Love me. Goddamn it, one of these days I have GOT to install a little pop-up "are you SURE you want to edit this other user's message?" query for when an admin accidentally hits the "edit" icon when he REALLY meant to hit the "reply with quote" icon...Stupid fucking laptop, stupid fucking touch-pad mouse substitute. (Maybe little bit stupid fucking Jimbo too.) You should still investigate the Do-It-Yourself divorce kits though. Some places even have 'em for CONTESTED divorces, and given that you don't actually want anything from him, I just don't see a whole lot of reasons for you to bother paying a lawyer - the only conceivable reason would be "so I can make HIM do the work, since I have the money to spare but not the time", and that doesn't sound like the case here. Let me tell you about how you can get ANYTHING out of the military when you're the civillian in the divorce. My ex-wife was able to just take our son and run back to the States, and I had to just sit there. Didn't even get to say goodbye. She screamed that I beat her up, never any evidence, but I got punished just because she said so.You can get money, continued healthcare, and pretty much anything else you can think of, especially if he's still in the states. My asshole is now three sizes bigger than it was before my divorce. IP: Logged |

My condolences. One of my roommates in Okinawa was divorced by his wife on the grounds of "mental cruelty", [because he was away from her for 6 mo.]. He had a 2-year-old son at the time.

Maybe I'm just being naive, but I don't want to lie to get anything. Hell, I could tell the truth and he would be in trouble, and I don't want to do that. He hates the military already; I don't want to make it worse for him.Yeah, I'm pissed because he screwed me over pretty badly. But not enough to affect his career over it. Or even lie about it. My credit is ruined and nothing is going to help that, but that doesn't mean I want to ruin his world because he ruined my credit. I just want to be DONE with it.
