Here's a detailed how-to. I recommend you read it all the way through before you do anything, because Service Pack 2 changed a few things.IP: Logged |

I usually get bored pretty quickly with custom bootscreens and wallpapers. A wallpaper is easily changed, but a Win2k/XP bootscreen isn't.I'll pass. IP: Logged |

I FUCKING GOT THE BITCH TO WORK AND IT IS EASY!!!this is what you need to do from the orignal page: do steps 1 through 9 exactly as the guy from white dog says to. then what i found from reading the forum thread on page 31 is you need to boot into command line safe mode. next from the dos promt you need to copy your modded file to these two locations c:\winnt\system32\ and c:\winnt\servicepackfiles\i386\ [example] copy c:\mod\ntoskrnl.exe c:\winnt\system32\ [/example] restart your machine it will now boot up with your new screen . the first time it boots with the new screen it will try to fix the file in system32 with the file in servicepackefiles which you have already replaced with your modded file. after that first boot it NEVER does it again and you did not need to turn off the file protection thing that microshaft puts in there. can we now say that the bitch box, that the new guy uses, that is in the it department i work in is now built on atari 7800 technology. FUCKING GREAT BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

It's incredibly easy if you run linux (or another operating system, I'd think). Just boot into linux and replace the old file with your new one. I had some problems with some other pics not being displayed properly (I liked the MC Escher eye pic from the gallery at the little white dog page), but this one worked great, and it kicks ass. =)Oh, and LaMFear: it takes me about 4-5 minutes to replace the image, assuming the .bmp works like it's supposed to. This one had the progress bar in the wrong place (even though they copied it directly from the default boot screen, which I thought was weird), and that was a bit of a bitch to fix. Yes, I'm just saying that it's quite easy to change the file on your Win2k partition from linux. You don't have to worry about any file protection stuff (it worked well for me, anyway).IP: Logged |

just to confirm jumper42,It worked! I didn't do it in safe mode, but just used a win98 bootflop. Much faster, but it DOES work. And indeed 5 minutes work. It's not so bad anymore, booting up my pc... defenitly not. Thnx senf IP: Logged |

Hellz yeah. I'm there too.I was mildly annoyed by a couple of things though, like the shading on the left chick's cheekbone (not dithered enough) and the small progress bar location (off to the right, visibly fucked up as the progress meter goes along) and the lack of the upper slidey thingy. So I fixed all that. For those of you who are interested, the (low-quality JPG) image below is a link to the actual BMP, so's you don't have to go through getting extra JPG artifacts / converting to 16-color / etc etc etc. | | (BMP version is approximately 150K) |

nono, I just used a win98 bootflop to get into dos, and then copied the NTOSKRNL.EXE to the 2 directories posted above. It's just a much faster way dan booting in the win2k safemode.. (And mine didn't boot in safe mode for some mysterious reason).IP: Logged |
