I think Burton actually expected people to be shocked by the ending. At any rate, it certainly wasn't supposed to be "predictable." And just because the original movie had horses doesn't make it alright for the remake. Although it is odd... I mean, if there was supposed to be a plague that wiped out all cats and dogs, why not livestock... but anyway. In the new version, they ARE ON A FUCKING SPACESHIP. Where the hell did they hide the horses? Unless just by random chance horses happened to evolve (or pre-exist) on the world when they crash-landed...

But OK, mission to mars was pretty craptacular.
