Happily enough, I wouldn't bet on that too heavily Dave - the MusicCity Napster servers were up and running long after the main Napster servers died.

Fuck if I know where it comes from, but apparently whoever the heck runs Music City has some money, or connections, or both to make the RIAA shy away from them to a degree.

A mystery, that. I'd sure as hell love to know the answer to it.

Actually the fasttrack network (which both kazaa and morpheus use -- essentially their backbone, from what i understand,) is dutch and was ordered to shut down by a dutch court. this slashdot post goes into how kazaa clients work w/ the network. and this /. post has a link to the court transcript and a translation by a dutch /.er

kazaa (and by extension, Morpheus) are run by a dutch company; the RIAA or MPAA couldn't do anything to them (because of the last A in both RIAA and MPAA). i don't know why this was even brought up in a dutch court or who filed the lawsuit/complaint.
