Yeah, so there's a thread for the worst drivel released in 2001... but it wasn't all crap. There was a handful of stuff this year I really enjoyed -

Snatch
O'Brother, Where Art Thou? (was that this year?)
Ghost World
Memento
Donnie Darko

That's all I can think of right now... but I'm sure there was a few others that I'm skipping.

I taped "Finding Forrester" on the tivo on sat, haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but I hear it's good.

Anyone else have any highly recommended films? Right now I want to see Amelie and The Man Who Wasn't There...

Shrek.

The extras on the DVD really make it outstanding, especially seeing Donkey singing "Baby Got Back".

I totally agree. Although this movie was NOT made for children, was it?

Amelie by Jean-Pierre Juenet. Go see it. You will not be sorry. Much different from everything he's done before (delicatessen, city of lost children, alien4).

Shrek is a kid's movie, but it did have some wierd moments (uh...John Cale's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" for the big soppy "we're both alone at the same time" scene? WTF?) that were just odd, for the most part i thought it was a great kids' movie.

The boy and the wife and I all got a kick out of it, I think it neatly fit the bill of "Family Entertainment", meaning we all got entertained. My son is going on 10 BTW, so all the potty humor was a RIOT to him. Farts and butts are funny at that age.

Come to think of it, they're still funny at my age too.

And yeah, I'll go along with JASBSB. Didn't take the boy to that one, but the wife and I almost peed our pants we were laughing so hard.

Mission to mars was my favorite this year.

And all Kevin Smith movies win IMO.

This year, it was a three way tie between Snatch, Shrek, and O Brother, Where Art Thou.

I know this movie is 10 years old, but Cool As Ice has always been a favorite of mine.
Vanilla Ice is one of the truely great rappers, and a big influence on today's rapmusic.

I don't know if any of you saw David Lynch's Mulholland Dr. but that was a sweet movie. Pretty trippy, graphic images of Hollywood and the aspiring actor/actress lifestyle. The film forces you to find your own meaning because the movie is really bizare and disconnected and has a sort of impromptu ending.

I agree with Snatch, but I've got some reservations about Jay+Silent Bob. I'm a big Kevin Smith fan, but that movie was stupid. And not Mallrats stupid, just "I didn't think this through" stupid.

Anyway, with the canadian movie perspective: There was a canadian horror film called Ginger Snaps that was really excellent. It's out on video in Canada now, but I don't know what ever happened to it in the states. If you happen to see it around, check it out. It's a really smartly written blood and guts flick. Good stuff.

Actually hell, since I'm on the movie thread of a forum full of people I don't know, I'm gonna pimp my movie review site. I know, every jackoff on the net has a movie review page, but we jack off differently. Me and my peeps bring a tape recorder and record exactly what we thought as soon as we get out of the theatre. We had the idea after we spent 20 minutes swearing about Titan A.E. Also, Jimbo once said he was impressed by my layout. So check it izzout, yizzo!

i haqve seen ginger snaps and it was excellent. i cannot commit to one great movie this year because there were many great ones but not one had merit over the other because where one lacked the other excelled and so forth and so on.
