I learned how to play guitar with metallica & maiden. A really good friend (who's in seminary school for his Masters of Div., oddly,) and I used to jam out and play maiden and metallica and megadeth and stuff like that in our mid/late teens. I recently picked up the new-ish maiden ("Brave New World") and was pleasantly surprised to find the band had dickenson back in it (and the old guitarist that left, but the one that replaced him, Lars Whatshisname, is still there too, so there's 3 guitars now.) To my utter shock, the disc does not suck.

Vive la 80's metal! (without the wailing screams).

Although I really liked "wonderboy" and a few other songs on the album, there was too much skit and not enough music. I am fucking loving Slayer's "God Hates Us All" though. It's very punk/thrash, which is IMO a Very Good Thing. And even though the schtick is kinda thick with Slipknot, they are the resurgence of Death Metal -- which is also a Good Thing (still not as cool as Slayer, though.)

If you're five five five, i'm six six sick. (from Conan O'Brien).

I've also been playing the fuck out of Genesis' The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (you know, when Genesis were good acid-psychedelic-prog-rockers, instead of 80's shit).
