I first heard him on some compilation doing "Om" which is still one of my favourite spoke pieces ever. His movie slam was great, and definitely worth watching. his album "Amethyst Rock Star" is really really really really great, although a it's not very 'hip-hop', it's got a lot of "rock" and "electronic" instrumentation on it. if you like his stuff, you should really check out Cannibal Ox's "The Cold Vein".

Although I'd agree that the early Cannibal Ox stuff is fairly boring, the Can-Ox stuff from their album "The Cold Vein" is best, reminding me of a hip-hop Autechre or Aphex Twin -- try to get it at as high a bitrate as you can, there's a lot of ambient sounds that would just get eaten up by shitty bitrates (ie <160kbps). The producer is El-P, if you're familiar with his other work -- he doesn't MC on the CanOx stuff, but he does lay vox down on Techno Animal's "Brotherhood of the Bomb" which is hands down the most aggressive album i've heard this whole year. I'll double that sentiment. There's a time and a place for pop music, but it should still be good pop music (Beatles, XTC, etc.) i'm downloading the Sage right now.

This link is not for the bandwidth impaired. Although I was on a dial-up when I first downloaded it, I used GetRight and a lot of patience. It's the Peel Session recording of Godspeed You Black Emperor! (that's the group name) doing their song "Hung Over As The Queen In Maida Vale". They are amazing "post-rock" (although i just like to think of them as 'instrumental'). If you saw the HBO reverb show w/ Bjork & Sigur Ros, they're in the same vein as Sigur Ros, but a lot more intense. This page has two concerts in Real Video, and this one has at least 20 hours of live GYBE!.

When the Sept. 11 thing started happening, I muted the TV and put on somber and this is what I listened to. It's from The Dead Flag Blues.

i'm assuming that most (if not all,) of you will have been partying rather hard and will probably be reading this (if at all,) on 1jan02, while slightly hung over. A little brian eno and some hangover cures will do everyone a world of good.
