Okay people, I was bored today, so what do I do? I decided to ghetto mod something. A little bit of background, my main system is cobbled together with spare parts and the like. Its a POS, in the most literal sense. Duct tape is the primary mode of keeping things in.

I had this old Compaq Presario, its a p90, and sacrificed itself to make a new home for my 233.

First problem, this Compaq was a proprietary case, its one of those mobos which have everything onboard, and the cards are inserted via a bridge. Its like a "T" shape. Theres a solid steel wall running up the center of it.

Second problem, the mobo mounts are "different" because it was a "T" shape, the card slots are on one side, and to the back.

Third Problem, Power supply gets in teh way of the mobo.

Boxstats:
Intel Pentium 233/MMX
80mb of EDO ram (32 donated by clme)
CDrom drive
2 x 3.2 gb hds
Sound, modem, etc.

Here we go kids:

Okay, here is the case, and thats where the powersupply is gonna be. Yes, right THERE. Slots for the cards are to the left, accross from the power supply.

So the mobo is mounted. That dark plastic is an anti-static sheet, because the mobo is mounted metal-on-metal. Yes, green masking tape, I'm not holding anything back.

Okay, this is from the top, notice how the cards have the metal brackets removed? Thats because when I closed the case, they got into the way, nothing is holding those cards in. And thats the top view.

All in all, not bad, its worthy of Clme.

How long did this take? An afternoon of drilling, cutting, and scaring my mother when I screamed in frustration. And an hour to clean up all the metal chips.

My little Hussain is all growed up!

Now, the amazing thing is that he did this for a 233.

http://www.freesco.com

I made a router that can run just about any service you wanted it to. I found an old HP Vectra that had a P90 in it and made it a fully functional router. You only need 16 megs of memory and a floppy, no HD needed. Check out the above link to find out how to configure one.

Dear sweet Jeebus... that is one of the best examples of ghetto modding I've seen in my life. I nearly wept at the sight of it... the only words that I can think of are "That'll do, Hussain. That'll do."

Now, if anyone would graciously mail me a celeron 300A, it would be greatly appreciated. This 233 isn't cutting it ;[

it sounds silly to sing "brother can you spare a celeron". if you're going to ask, ask for something worth it, like a P4 or an athlon 1800 or something.

I don't suppose you have a P4 you're willing to part with. Reason I ask for a cellie, is because it'll run on my mobo without massive pain on my part. AND i can overclock the bugger.
