Is XP that bad? I really haven't played with it at all.

I've read bad things about it and I've heard all the security shit that's been going on, but the real reason I'm not going to snag a copy is that I don't want to give MS any more control over howmy OS and computer interact (OSes don't need to dial out 9 or 10 times during an install to send information out to anyone).

Fucking win2k is plenty good enough.

My Goddamn XP experience from last fucking night.

Ok... The saga begins with a simple "I think I will play Tribes 2 for a bit!"

That is where the problem started. I am running XP on my athlon XP box, as of last week. I popped into Tribes 2, opened up a server which had a map I have not heard of before. During loading, my box seemed to lock up. I rebooted, and to my suprise, a microsoft error appeared:

Blablabla the following file is missing or corrupt, cannot load windows blablabla
/system32/configs/system.

Well I am not totally familiar with this extensionless file, but what the hell... I log into the recovery console, pull it from the CD, and reboot thinking all is well.

I reboot, same problem. I go back to the console, put the original file back, reboot, go into the console again, and it will not accept my password.
Well since most of my important files are on my first HD and not my 2nd, I install a copy of xp over the existing copy in repair mode... restart, it gives me an error to the effect of "Your password could not properly be exchanged with the operating system" and restarts.

Soooo... I install XP in c:\windows2\, take ownership of all the drives, put my files in a safe place, blow away the partition, and install XP (#3)

ok, like 6 fucking hours of this shit, I get on today and find out if I have more than 3 IE windows open, my goddamn computer shuts off. Just turns off, no questions asked. If I am forced to install XP again, I WONT. I'm going 2k. I dont even care about the XP issues, if it would facking run. This is a 100% clean install on tested and working hardware. Go figure. go with linux or something.

Ya, Eod, I know you will be posting shortly about how wonderful the code is laid out in tribes 2 and how resistant the game is to bugs, so I'll just say SCREW YOU! I LIKE TRIBES 2. Tribes is good, Tribes 2 is better.

I don't, err, exactly follow your comment. The 1 word replies usually don't give enough info to understand where you are coming from. Oh well. I am going to go play tribes 2 =)

I think I'd buy microsoft stock if I had money. mainly cause I feel that the xbox will pay off for them after all it runs under a streamlined version of 2000 instead of me or xp.
