The whole thing began yesterday. We had just purchased Puffer to entertain/amuse Wanda. Wanda currently lives in a 10 gallon aqarium. I was told that the puffer can be quite mean, but so can Wanda. So, I drop Puffer in the aqarium. He slowly moves toward Wanda, almost immediately Wanda's gills stick straight out and she puffs up really big (yes, Wanda). and attempts to "nip" Puffer's fins. (just a warning) Puffer gets the shit scared out of him and starts running. Wanda chases him, almost to say "Back the fuck up, bitch"

Wanda wins round 1.

After a few of these encounters, Puffer soon learns to stay the hell away from Wanda. Soon, Puffer finds a new target. Snail. Puffer heads towards snail and immediately Wanda heads over (wanda and snail have been in the same aquarium for a year and a half and have themselves quite a relationship) Puffer continues to move closer to snail, and attempts to knock him off the side. Wanda opens a can of whoopfish!!!! She puffs up and goes after Puffer (still has not puffed up himself). He learned his lesson and has yet to go after Snail again. (Wanda has his back)

Wanda wins round 2

Thinking all is well, they will probably stay away from each other, I go to bed.

This morning I go to check on them, and HOLY SHIT, Wanda does not have any fins and snail is on the floor of the aqarium!!! It appears that Puffer has pulled some kind of sneaky shit, guerillas/metal gear 2 style warfare. While Wanda was sleeping and the lights were off, he attacked! Wanda is alive and in a different aqaurium now recovering, but all hell broke loose last night and I was asleep.

Moral: Even though they are called pufferfish, I do not think they really puff up, although they look like they could.

But they indeed have very strong teeth. its more like 1 tooth covering the upper and one the lower jaw. And they can be very agressive. So it's no surprise Wanda lost her vins.

The puffers eat Brine shrimp... Well, they both would eat it. The Siamese Fighting Fish (beta) eats... "Beta Food" whatever the hell that is. It comes in a little container.

I disagree!!! Wanda won round 2, but TOTALLY lost round 3 (round 3 was not officially announced in the original post). I think round 3 is considered any time after I went to bed.

I actually went out this week and bought him another tank becuase things were not going that great after "round 3". I put a "flounder" in with him (it is flat, almost like a sting ray) and he ate around the outide of him, much like eating the crust off the bread. So i put the flounder and Wanda back in their original tanks to "recover" for awhile. (at that point, the snial proceeded to have about 1,000,000,000 babies but that is a different story). So I bought a friend for the puffer, a very large one, about double his size. I figured the little one wouldnt mess with the big one. WRONG. He took a big chomp at his side, but he is ok. I think Puffer1 learned his lesson because he has not touched him since, unless he discovered that puffer meat does not taste good.
