Well from all reports it's going pretty well. I made sure I'd gotten rid of most of my guilders, and I went to the ATM on new years day to get me some €uro-bills. The government saw to it that you could buy coins since December 15th or so, so most people already had those, but the lines for the ATM's on new years day were LONG.
This morning I saw on the news that the ATM's had done about 2,5 million unique transactions, and on a population of 16 million, that's pretty good I guess.
Of course, the REAL test will be today as all stores and buisinesses are open and most people are going back to work.
I think it'll go over pretty smoothly all in all.

I don't know if Germany has laws against putting Hitler on coins or not, but I'm pretty sure they'd never dream of doing a thing like that. It seems a pretty sure way of getting isolated very quick...

To answer xclusive: As far as I know the €uro bills all have unidentifiable bridges and arches and such on them. A brigde on one of the bills looked too much like an excisting bridge somewhere and the design was changed immediately.

actually i bet they didn't use famous buildings and such to prevent counterfeiting. the euro bills are supposed to be nearly counterfeit-proof. putting famous architecture on them would also make it pretty nationalistic. how would you decide which building goes on what bill? also the idea behind it was to unify europe, get everyone using the same currency...but i guess as long as its the same currency it souldn't matter what's on it. still though...it does suck big donkey dick.
