My friend and i made a hip hop track. No samples, all original material.Peladian on recording, production and arrangement. Telos on vox, and cuts. i'd like to get some opinions from the intelligent collective that views this site, non-hiphop listeners as well. Don't be afraid to tell me what you think. Just tell me why. Thanks fellow penIs'ers. Peter aka: TELOS www.wwu.edu/~dimartj

I've listened to it twice now...I have nothing bad to say. Hell... I think it will end up in my playlist. Er... providing its not protected by copyright and you're not a member of the RIAA that is. [This message has been edited by Clme (edited 01-22-2002).] IP: Logged |

I have nothing really bad to say about it either. I'm always impressed when someone makes music, especially orignial stuff, completely original stuff.I think your voice sounds a little odd perhaps, it's the recording equiptment you used, maybe some filter you might've used. I also think the vocals need to be boosted just a tad. I think at times the beat drowns out your rhymes at times. I enjoyed the scratching though, it adds a subtle part to the song which I enjoy. the bass drum sounds flat, you might want to add a really deep piano bass note (or bass guitar, whatever,) on every bass drum hit to add more oomph to it as well as compressing the hell out of it. a nice trick with drums is to do each hit three times: one is the bass drum very low, one is the bass drum a octave up and one is a bass guitar/synth doing the same note an octave lower than the bass drum itself. the piano sounds very Dre, but that's not a bad thing in my book (although I would take an EQ to it and take out some of the treble, that's just me.)
I like it -- my only notes are to EQ it a bit more and fix that bass drum, and although hip hop isn't my main focus, if this came on the radio I'd leave it on. The synth/marimba/piano chords and lines are really nice and add a mellow touch to it. If you need a compressor, AIM me (discogravy) and i'm sure i can find one on an old partition. The filtered vox right at the end add a really nice subtle touch to it. IP: Logged |

Ever heard Come on Feet by Quasimoto? That's good hiphop, anyways:Didn't much like the keyboard but it was the best homemade hiphop I've heard in a long while. Needs more 'kill whitey.' IP: Logged |

hm. I thought it was a little.. flat sounding, I guess. I think your voice should be more dynamic, and have more expression. The best rappers sound like they're freestyling even when they're not, I've noticed, because it never sounds like they're reading or reciting. IP: Logged |
