So I have decided to go nuts and give anime another chance. I have hated everything I've ever seen, except Akira, which i thought was OK, but nothing fantastic. I've seen both the dubbed version a few years ago and the recent re-dub/subbed version, which I liked a lot more than the first time around.So like I'm saying, I am insane and would like a recommendation on what to watch or pick up. I'm particularly looking for easy-to-find stuff that I could pick up, e.g. at Best Buy or something, as opposed to having to send my left nut off to some importer for a shitty VHS tape. A friend keeps annoying me with "cowboy bebop"-this and "cowboy bebop"-that and I finally had to smack him one and say 'Settle down Bevis'. I heard the opening song ("taka' or 'tank' i think dunno) and if it's going to be a sacrilige of jazz the whole fucking way through, I'll pass. So: recommendations? IP: Logged |

really depends on the type of anime your looking for.first off what kinda genre of anime. fantasy -monster, swords, sorcery, vampires mecha -big robots blasting the shit out of each other space -spaceships battles, aliens and other I can't think of right now you also have to consider if your looking for a more serious anime or a more comical.
overall a couple suggestions would be Record of Lodoss War, Neo Genesis Evangelion, Princess Mononoke, Trigun
those are just a couple good ones, all but mononoke are series and they are all serious except for Trigun. oh by the way if you have cartoon network, cowboy bebop is on around midnight on sunday and thursday, and it's a decent show. later

Check out Evangelion - I've seen the first four episodes of it, it bored the piss out of me though. Record of Lodoss war is supposed to be good, too, as trey said.
Whatever you watch, do not get dubbed.

What is the category of anime where there is no fucking plot line other than having the people get nekkid at certain points?Oh.. I just described 90% of all anime.. I like some anime.. Ghost is the Shell is pretty darn good, Akira, etc.. If I have to pick one, I'd go with any sort of Mech type Anime.. IP: Logged |

i like cowboy bebop, i saw it once when i was at home and it rocked...too bad i don't get cartoon network at school...sacrilige...we don't get comedy cemtral either, but we DO get a bazillion christian channels, and so many home-shopping channels...no, i don't go to a christian school, i go to a fairly artsy-fartsy school...our administration can suck it hard. oh yeah...gundam wing was cool, G-force is pretty cool too, not sure if it's anime, but it's still good... ------------------

Ninja Scroll is quite electrifying.Also, the new Vampire Hunter D sequel (which you can find on eBay from overseas if you look carefully) is another great selection. IP: Logged |

Anyway, I found a 'connection' with a buttload animeseries in mpg's/vcd. Just found em today.. I'll make a list of what he got tomorrow. I count about 50. That's 50 series with their appr. episodes.

Vandread, Lain, Samurai X, Gasaraki.Vandread is a space combat thingy.. i dig it, you probably won't .. rent it anways. Lain is trippy fucked up cyber stuff. i love it. Alternates roughly every episode between making total sense and making no sense, up until you get to the final volume when everything make sense. Samurai X is totally badass. I hate Ruroni Kenshin, i love Samurai X.. go figure. Gasaraki is... something else. I really loved it, totally blew me away. I really loathe some of the normal staples of anime like anything Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Jin Roh, Blood, etc).. so hey, your mileage may vary. If you're freaky in the mood for something way cool and cute, check out Card Captor Sakura.. same development company that made X (which you should pass on btw.. the movie blows, the tv series rocks).. don't get Shadow Skill.. it's ass... anything based on a videogame can safely be assumed to suck. The only stuff I've seen that I really liked at all was Akira (although out of that list, The MAXX was a cool comic, I don't remember the animation from MTV too well, but I have vague memories of it not sucking.)I absolutely hate "comic" or "funny" anime, because it usually isn't and the drawn faces of pseudo-cutesy-anime characters makes me want to hit them really hard. Which can be expensive if you break TVs every time you watch a fucking movie. I like the sci-fi stuff I've seen (e.g. Akira, Ghost In The Shell) but so far, that's about it. IP: Logged |

Angelic Layer is great, it's from the same company that did X and Card Captor Sakura.Get X if it's the tv version Final Fantasy Unlimited is total shit. Hellsing is fucking amazing. Comes out on dvd sometime this year by Pioneer i believe. Hajime no Ippo is really solid. Noir is basic, but entertaining. Sadamitsu is fucking awesome. Only 10 episodes long though. Slam Dunk is long and drawn out.. 5 episodes about the final 7 minutes in a game, for instance. It's in no way serious, but it still manages to not suck. Full Metal Panic so far is looking good. Najica is total shit. Tactical Panty Action. Laaaaame. You know.. i could probably ramble on at length about your list... probably better suited for email.. IP: Logged |

I really enoied Tank Police 1 and 2...
I also remember thinking Project Ako was really good, but that was when i was like 14. Would Aeon Flux be considered anime ? Those are definitly worth watching. I could never make any sense from one episode to the next tho which always bothered me. IP: Logged |

aeon flux was indeed very cool, the episodes were pretty much non-squitor, so it wasn't going to make sense....the MAXX is fucking rad as fuck...i've been looking for the videos for a cuple years and i just found out yesterday that they're out on VHS...eh..i don't own a TV anyway, so i guess it doesn't matter... the head was also prety good as long as we're talking about MTV stuff. what was the purple alien's name again?? and i remember they had the guy who had the lawn mower blade in his head. mmm...such a great show.... ------------------
