Interesting. That's going to suck for some people. I'm not worried though, I'm well established with a prominent school district. Now aren't all these people from India supposed to be doctors?  IP: Logged |

Very interesting. It is just like outsourcing for a company. If there is a cheaper way to do it, companies will. It will be interesting to see how the world will work in 30 years when more and more of the world becomes educated.Part of the big problem is with benefits packages that companies have to offer. Just because a person is payed $35,000 a year, there are many other expenses with that employee. I'm sure some of the programmers out there may start feeling the crunch on jobs as more companies outsource programming to India. These people work for way less than Americans, and do just as good of a job. I'm rambling...I'm done. ------------------

You have your choice: talk to the guy who pretty much knows his shit but his accent's so fucking thick you can't understand one word out of three in person, much less over the phone, who acts like a total fucking jerk anyway because he's sick of speaking a second language, or talk to the fluffy little blonde who speaks english fine but can't even TYPE and knows NOTHING WHATSOFUCKINGEVER about IS. Many times. I found them to be effective in well-defined contract roles. I have not engaged ANY in a consulting role due to ineffective communication.
These "imports" will be competing against college IT grads, and will probably lower the salary rate of IT people in general with less than 5-7 years experience. IP: Logged |

I'll clarify. I have not utilized any H-1B's
in a consulting role of any projects that I have managed or been a part of. I didn't say that the typical IS project did not include a consulting role. There are contractors, and then there are consultants. Contractors accomplish specific predefined tasks while consultants add value in a advisement capacity.

Mrrrmph. I STRONGLY dislike attempting to contract with people in any way, shape, form or fashion for IT work if there's a serious communication barrier. The very nature of the work requires a strong ability to communicate.To each his own, I guess. ::shrug:: IP: Logged |

I agree Jimbo. One of the biggest things in IT/IS projects is being able to communicate with various levels of the organization. The tech stuff is easy, the hard part is keeping communications open and clear and delivering what is expected to be delivered. That and laying the smack down on stupid shit.. IP: Logged |

Hm. If you guys say so, but lately my design department has farmed the db/development part of some projects out to an Indian concern because the group *in our company* that does that kind of work is so effing hard to work with. This company is basically a local guy (american) who works out the details and client interaction, and experts back in India who do the work. They get everything done obscenely fast, and charge about 1/10th of what our own development group charges. And no communication gap, because all of our developers are indian too. IP: Logged |
