ok heres the situation, I play an online text game called utopia (by the way any of you play it?) this game being a free game has ads in it both pop up and sidebar stuff, and I know they are a necessary evil to make the game stay free.most of the time this doesn't interfere with my playing the game and they are usually dumb ads I don't care about or apply to me. lately though there has been this one pop up ad thats appeared a couple times thats really annoyed me. see its just a message box with an ok button and no real information on it but the only way to get rid of it is to turn off my machine or go into task manager. this alone wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that leaving it alone for awhile seems to let it call up other pop up ads. and to top it all off after you get rid of it and in fact close everything but not turn the machine off, it will every now and then sned you more pop up ads, ex: ie was closed and I was playing a game of freecell and suddenly two pop up ads appear, also did it again while I've been righting this. least it goes away when I turn off my comp which I'll do in a moment since it's 5:30 am almost. so in conclusion "God I hate ads!!!" later trey IP: Logged |

the reason for this is because IE sucks...hardcore. feel free to correct me if i'm wrong at any pont along the way here. even when you close the window, (i'll assume you have windows 9x or whatever version) IE is still sort of running...because IE is also windows explorer and also runs "active desktop". i used to have issues with explorer hating some fatal error of some sort and wen i clicked close, everything in my quicklaunch tray disappeared except for task scheduler and the clock. i propsoe you stop using IE altogether. use opera or netscape, or some other browser that doesn't have as many holes... anyone remember what that limk was that xclusive posted a while ago?? the subject of the thread was "IE please...thankyou" or something like that...it was one of the reasons why i stopped using IE. ------------------ everyone would be happier if they submitted to weekly government-administered enemas...including me. If you're not using IE at ALL, and pop ups appear, then it's because you have some sort of spyware-adware cack installed on your system. I HIGHLY recommend getting Ad-Aware from Lavasoft (www.lavasoft.de ?) to remove all your spyware cack problems. And yes, alt-f4 should remove ANY IE spawned pop up add in the foreground. You should be able to alt-tab to task switch to the ad to remove it via keyboard shortcut if you don't have it in the foreground. -3 IP: Logged |

Also, www.lavasoftusa.com BTW... some of the spyware and pop ups are set so that right clicking on the task bar gives you nothing. Since they also give you no title bar then the only way IS through task manager or alt+F4. windows shortcut keys: Learn them, love them. IP: Logged |

There used to be, but I don't remember what it was, or know if it still works.Alt-enter, of course, fullscreens whatever you're looking at if it has true fullscreen capability. (dos prompts, mplayer, etc) And getting back to trey's utopia question - Yes, I used to play Utopia, a long time ago. Then I stopped, then I came back like 4 or 5 ages ago (?) and played for 3 ages with the same kingdom. The first 2 ages we did very well, making the lists, and I was in the top lists at the end of the age for whatever race I played, in size, networth, and honor. (Faery, Elf, then Faery again.) I played a thief/mage combo, pure defensive elite army, high WPA, medium TPA. Then in the middle of last age, I stopped playing. Didn't even cancel my province, just stopped playing. I hope my KD mates pillaged the crap out of me, but I bet it was hard. =p -3 IP: Logged |

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q126449 Most shortcut keys are listed there. The "windows key" and "M" will minimize all windows.

F11 will fullscreen IE (and bring it back to whatever it was before.) I have to agree with Clme: learn hotkeys (most you can learn by just checking in the menus or asking help).IP: Logged |

Gob Bless Opera and the 'no pop-ups' option. I hope IE never ever puts that option in so the advertisers don't think of something else to annoy the shit out of me.IP: Logged |
