I know GNP does not equal per capita income, but it formatted better for the title space.

Anyway, Mr. UC-Fullerton economist moron dude probably forgot to remember the part where not EVERYONE on EQ sells items on Ebay. If that were somehow possible, then maybe EQ could be the 77th best paying nation in the world, but since some people have to BUY this stuff, and others don't buy or sell at all, it's actually a small PERCENTAGE of the EQ player base that averages $2300 per year. If you averaged the income of the small percentage over the entire population, it wouldn't be nearly so impressive.

It's sort of like taking ALL the sales from all sellers on Ebay, then claiming that the internet generates that much per capita income for it's users. Not true. Most of them are losing money.

If Sony would release accurate subscription figures, you'd find the number much lower.

Hope this made you feel better, Weis.

This guy's basic mistake is bothering me so much that I'm going to email him right now and call him stupid. (Well, I'll let him arrive at that conclusion all by himself.)

I find it interesting that you claim a per capita income of some $2300 for the players of Sony's EverQuest.

By applying your figures ($2266) to Sony's claimed 400,000 active accounts, I get a to-date net sale value of over $900,000,000.

I think what you REALLY meant to say was:

"Those users who choose to sell virtual property on Ebay average $2266 in income."

I think you failed to realize that that is actually a small percentage of the player base.

At least, I HOPE you did. Interesting, nonetheless.
