Well, I dont think he's claiming that he knows that exactly every moment will be horrendously funny, but after analysis of the trailers he got the general impression that the makers of the film weren't trying too hard to make it ha-ha funny but flop. (i.e. Slackers, Dude Where's My Car, etc).

He's simply saying that this may be a relatively nice comedy, rather than a slapstick rollercoater of bad jokes and crude innuendo.
