Just kidding. So I installed the client today and have been processing packets (packet) all day. I think I'm gonna have to make like jumper and uninstall it, and never post results, out of sheer embarrassment. 12.5 hours for about 13 percent complete, yowza. -3 IP: Logged |

If you're using the screensaver version, make sure you have it set to blank the screen. If you leave it displaying the "results" then it actually increases the required time by about 100% (not an exageration). Also, allowing it to run in the background doesn't make significant dents in your time, so go for that too. In the long run, the text client is better, especially if you can run it as a service. My experience running screensaver set to blank: a 500mhz machine takes about 23 hours. a 300mhz machine takes 30-35. a 1.4 ghz takes 5-6 hours. Have a blast. Or something. And make sure that processor is getting some AIR. IP: Logged |

Oh no, here's a new factoid for you: Old AMD 450mhz machine with screensaver active appears to yield 1% per hour. ; )I'll disable that screen saver part post haste. -3 IP: Logged |

If your computer finishes a packet and cannot connect to the SETI@home database, then it is supposed to sit and retry once an hour... so apparently you're lucky enough not to be able to connect for an hour when its done. Yes there are fast packets. There are also slow packets. They tend to even out. IP: Logged |

44 hours for 100% done, hahaha.I must have had like, the biggest packet EVAR (don't deny me my denial) It's ok, I should be building a much faster machine come summer, when financial aid kicks in. My girlfriend can have most of the guts from this one. -3 IP: Logged |

Apparently I just can't connect at all, because I've been sitting on a finished packet for probably 8 hours now. -3 IP: Logged |

sit there a little longer, make sure you don't move from that spot, the packet has to be warm so it can hatch. then the little guy inside can fly to the SETI servers.they're built with homing instincts. IP: Logged |

It also helps if YUO configure your firewall correctly. The fucked up part is that it normally asks me whether new shit can have tcp/ip privileges or not, etc... and it wasn't, so i just assumed that there was no problem in THAT department. I'm famous now! And working on packet #2. Assuming Eod stops using seti right now, I'll surpass his results sometime after we actually make contact with @$@#$ aliens. 03 IP: Logged |

WHY WOULD I HAVE TO USE A SOCKS SERVER TO MAKE SETI WORK?!?!!? I DON'T HAVE TO USE THAT FOR ANYTHING ELSE!!!i suck...after a few years of not using SETI i downloaded a copy this morning. it refuses to cooperate with me. won't connect. oh well...probably just some crap that i didn't do right. i'll figure it out...it worked fine two years ago with no tweaking.... ------------------ i will use my "death's head" on you, AJAX!! then we shall see who's tank is better...
