yeah, that problem has been going around since at least Friday - I got disconnected yesterday with that message, /\/arcus on Thursday I think, other people I don't know...Basically, what they're thinking of doing, is just having Trillian's AIM connecting to the TOC Server (limited functionality, but it is permitted because of the AOL-Time Warner merger stipulations). That will stop people whining to the makers about the problems, and give them time to work on new features. One stipulation of the AOL-Time Warner merger was that if another company made an Oscar server (AOL's premium server, which Trillian connects to), then the buddy lists must be shared. Since Trillian has a huge open source backing, they're thinking that this might be the way to go. Personally, I will fight with Trillian until the end, it gets around my school's cap on bandwidth (only 8k/sec upload speed, eh? Great... I'll just send 30 files at a time [all going 8k/sec] to the same person). cheers IP: Logged |

I actually think Trillian should fight for a general standard for IM message formats, one that includes links to advertising hosted by the particular owner-company of the server involved.by that i mean.. Trillian creates Trillian 2.0, based on the new informal standard that all the IM companies tinkered up. Jimbo IMs Eod via AIM servers, but Eod is using Trillian. No problem! Eod's Trillian client recieves the message from AIM's server, but also recieves the ad-banner location, which is loaded in his little popup message window. AOL/TW knows that message recipients are being forced to see their advertising, Eod knows that he can talk to Jim via AIM and grandmax0r via ICQ with the same handy client, and the world is a better place. (And seals are cute and fuzzy and never killed, I know, I know. Sigh.) -3 IP: Logged |

i've been using aim for aim-buddies and trillian for everything else, including IRC. aim keeps fucking me up cos i can't remember who all these fucking s/n belong to....like i can remember the ones that are direct references, like clme & jumper, and some of the ones that are on IRC a lot, like libra777 but a shitload are just on my list and i have no idea who they are (cos on trillian i'd just renamed the fucking contacts.)------------------ "I steal teeth from kittens to make necklaces for Satan." the previous method of ensuring you connected to AIM via Trillian (until last week) was to run AIM, sign in, and then bump yourself off by logging in with Trillian. As of the 14th or 15th, AIM became more active in hunting down Trillian clients and shutting them down. The new version of Trillian that came out yesterday (version .725) resolves these issues and works fine for now.I say we have a good 2 or 3 days before AOL starts shutting down Trillian clients again.
