  • I'm curious how much of that is attributable to:

    • Increase in fentanyl being added to other drugs.
    • Covid-19 effects (depression, boredom, etc)
    • Prescription drug abuse (pills, etc).

I've seen graphs with similar increases for alcohol deaths, with a 25% increase just in 2020.
    https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2798004

  • "The rate of drug overdose deaths involving synthetic opioids other than methadone increased 22%, while the rate of deaths involving heroin declined 32% between 2020 and 2021."

Fentanyl is included in the synthetic opioid category, so my best guess is that it's claiming its share.

  • So a combo of more recreational drugs being used in 2020 and the increase of 'cutting/filling' the drugs with synthetic opioids.

    Yikes.

I guess I'm happy I stuck to drinking. Well, except for those stats looking really bad for the last few years too. sigh
